How does a Flapper Cistern work?

Answers:
Started coming into the UK from the continent of europe about 5 years ago. Unlike the old british type of creating a syphon so that the water flowed when the column of water was completed, the flapper is just a rubber seal that is lifted by the lever,so allowing the water to flow out.
There are some disadvantages, leaking valves allowing water to escape and more complicated mechanisms.
