Tap that wont work?
Does anyone know what the problem could be ive got a bathroom tap and when turned on water wont come out! Could this just be the washer?
Answers:
We had the same problem and suspected it was a major problem with the pipe. Our landlord came out to look at it and said it was probably the washer and we thought he was fobbing us off. However, 5 minutes later and one fully working tap hey presto! Sometimes things really are much simpler than you think.

You need to ask yourself how old is the plumbing, and how old is the water line intot he house. yoou could have decayed pipes(internally) which have desintigrated and residuedirt/rust is clogging the line. Try first by unscrewing the tape screen which is located on the end of the faucet in the sink. see if you have dirt and residue there. Then check to see is water still blocked? If so you have a clogged plumbing line. and probably need to replace/flush out your water lines.
Hi
This may not be due to washer
This may be due to some obstruction (block) in the water pipe
The chances are it is the washer. We get this a lot as out taps were installed in the 60s, a certain guarantee that things will be a pain. IT's a relatively simple job to do but remember to turn the stopcock off first otherwise you'll get incredibly wet like in the comedy programmes.
It may be that the washer has become detached from the plunger.
Turn off the water to the bathroom, remove the cover and plunger housing, lift the assembly out and check the washer and replace as necessary.
The seat of the washer may need to be cleaned out and providing it is still in good condition this can be done with a flat screwdriver, failing that a re seating tool from your local diy store, this is a simple job to carry out and quite inexpensive.
Good luck.
yeh maybe washers jammed in the bowl. so take out (after turn of water meter)might as well put new one in. but i have had problem with the tap being jammed with calcium build up. and the tap appears to be turning on but in fact the whole tap is infact unscrewing at the base. if this is happening have to take out and unfreeze and screw out the inner crank out of the outer body. then get all calcium of by using wire brush and lubricate with vaseline before putting back.
I'm 99.9% sure that the problem is down to a torn-out washer in your tap. The exact same thing happened to me with the cold water tap in the utility room. Replacing the washer solved the problem. Just remove the washer, and then take it to your nearest DIY shop or ironmonger and ask for one that's exactly the same size. Tap washers come in varying sizes, so you'll need one exactly the same as your old one.
In a modern tap it might have travelled beyond its limits and the "O" ring has jumped out preventing water coming out of the tap (faucet)
In an old house there may be a blockage, in which case it will need to be removed (Just the top part)
In the UK old taps were BS 1010 Modern taps are BS 5412 which are crap.
You probably need a plumber as they have the proper tools and expertise..
Could be a broken mechanism, or could be something blocking the end of the tap itself. I had a problem like this and it turned out to be some fibre loft insulation had got into the cold water tank and worked its way through the system to end up clogging up the tap.

sounds like the washer to me.

It could be washer trouble if it a later type of tap water could have passed by the O ring it then prevents the washer from lifting off its seating
To rectify strip down the tap as to replace washer then turn the spindle clockwise this will allow the O ring to drop below and let the water out .make sure that the nut shapr fit into its housing in the body of the tap reassemble problem should be solved
