I have a gas barbi and wondered if it is possible to clean the coals inside it

You don't need to clean them. Just turn them over and the gas will burn off any residue (meat, fat etc.) then after a month or so turn them over again and repeat the process.
i don't think u have to because if you did you would get alot of coal everywere lol
turn them over - close the lid - leave it on for a while - everything will burn off..
