Cannot build a porch.it contreven planning regs. I live in an area of high winds and a prevailing wind that hits the front door. And when it either rains, or snows or is very windy we have problems with this door. Does anyone have any suggestions please? Thank you very much.

Either buy a PVC door or use yacht varnish on the door you have
What about installing a storm door in front of it. Home Depot and Lowes carry big selection.
You could use some sort of woodstain/woodseal. Ronseal products are very good.
Good quality urethane my help ,it will darken the door abit but it will protect the wood .
I'd go with a storm door
varnishing it with an all proof weather proof varnish me thinks. our door has always stayed protected.sand it all down and then do it.
Try Ron Seal products, they are quite good but be careful with the colour you choose.
Stain, weatherstipping around it ( I'm a New England girl) and a storm door should do the trick. I think staining is prettier than paint anyway!
Depends what wood it is, but you could try beeswax if you dont want to varnish it. But you would have to reapply regularly.
I have the same problem. I had to replace my front door with an aluminum door. Wood just will not hold up to the rain and the winds. I have tried everything from paint to urethane and still no luck. I replaced my front door with an aluminum door and it is holding up really well to the elements. They aren't as pricey as you think. If you have a habitat for humanity restore shop in your area you can get some really good prices on overstocked doors.

If it wood, you can clear varnish it or rub a lot of linseed oil into it both of which will water proof it(makes the wood look lovely too). You can buy weatherproofer in pots in DIY places (they dont have to be coloured.
If you dont mind an ugly front door I suppose you could get a UPVC one.
You could also replace it with a fire door (they have a huge plate of metal in the middle)
Anyway, I hope this helps, and good luck!
you could always use a yacht varnish as used on boats (honest) or plenty of danish oil or teak oil rubbed well in ,makes the wood like a ducks back
