Bleeding air in rads?
A friend drained his radiators down, and took one out, to be replaced later, three weeks later tried to bleed his rads with no air coming out. could this be his float valve ?seized?
Answers:
OR COULD BE AN AIR LOCK IN THE SYSTEM BUT YES TRY THE HEADER TANK IN THE LOFT FIRST TO SEE IF THE BALL VALVE HAS STUCK!
ALSO DOUBLE CHECK THE STOP VALVE HE USED TO ISOLATE THE RADS OR IF ONLY ISOLATED ONE CHECK BOTH RAD VALVES ARE FULLY OPEN LITTLE TRICK I GOT TAUT LEFTY LOSSY RIGHTY TIGHTY IT WORKS
start from the rad nearest the boiler and work outwards.
depends on the system, if tank fed yes, check the float valve, if combi boiler he will have a filling loop somewhere near the boiler.
need any more advice then email me with more info please.
Assuming that it is not a pressurised system, ensure that boiler is turned off and cool before checking float valve as cold water in a partially filled boiler can be expensive.
Check the obvious - valves open at both ends of radiator, all drain taps closed.
Check the thermostat valve on radiator sometimes the small pin jams
If there is a small tank in the loft, called the header tank, check the ball float valve. May just need to move the float arm to free it off, or may need to take it appart to cean it out if there are any debries in the water restictor.
If it is a pressurised system, check there is enough pressure in the system. I know it sounds silly but make sure the radiator valves are open.
If there is an airlock then further investigation is needed, you may need to back fill the system using the garden hose with mains water pressure.
