How good is cavity wall insulation does it work is it worth the money?
Answers:
ive had it done and i cant tell the difference to be honest, it seems hotter in summer and colder in winter
i work for a construction company over the past 4 years we have been working on a huge modernisation programme for council houses in one area we ensured that 500 properties were fitted with cavity wall insulation. If we did not feel that this would be effective we would not have used a lump some of a tight budget to do this work. It is definately worth considering if you want to save on your heating bills.
Insulation works- but I am not sure what you mean "Cavity Wall" - do you mean the space behind the Sheetrock- if so, yes it works, but bear in mind most heat goes out the Cieling, in particular around the edge of the wall and Cieling- that area is mostly neglected by Insulation guy and Sheetrock man- often a 1/4 crack, with nothing but thin drywall tape and thin mud between you and the attic.
In my Michigan home, that is why I use Crown Mold around the cielings in addition to appearance.
We had it done last year and yes, we could tell the difference.
If you are in the UK try contacting your local council as they either do them themselves, or can put you in touch with companies where you can have it done with a discount. If I remember rightly it was Powergen who sorted ours...worth checking out anyway.
Just remembered this site..

We moved into this house about 30 years ago and it had just had cwi put in. I can say categorically that our house is noticeably warmer than any of our neighbours and our heating bills are considerably smaller. I would have it again if we move, and considering that present day insulation must be an improvement on cwi from 30 years ago it must be pretty effective!
I'm a htg tech, and your best money is spent in the attic, a majority of heat lose is through the ceiling, and not as much through the walls, although your windows are a big factor there. As much work as it is and as costly as it is - No it's not worth it. Now, if the walls are open of course fill 'em.
cavity wall insulation is a very cost effective way of a reduction in heating cost, you are most likely to save on the next price increase, go for it
Although most heat goes out throught he ceiling, you'll still save money, in the long run, by insulating your walls as well. The spray in is the best but there can't be any drywall up. I had it done in my breezeway last year & now you can barely hear cars driving by.
every penny shop around to see whats on offer
Yes it works and grants are available in the UK. Check to see if you qualify
