I wonder why it is that people using their mobile phones have to let the whole neighbourhood know?

You mean when they talk REALLY REALLY loud into the cell phone? That is because when they put the phone to their ear their IQ drops about 10 points and they think if they talk louder they will seem smarter.
Because they think it's cool.
They probably show it off as some sort of social status symbol.
Probably a loud, snobby jerk.

Mobiles should be banned, they're so annoying!!
They want to give people the impression that they have a lot of friends and are popular.
They also do that to make themselves appear to be financially well off. They have noticed that very successful people with white colar jobs or a person of Donald Trumps stature are called constantly for advice on something that is happening at the work place.
It is a status symbol for them but they are not fooling anybody.
That is such an irritating and stupid habit!

My husband does it because he's deaf in one ear and has a major hearing loss in the other. No, not being a smart aleck, he seriously can't hear that well, but he uses his phone as his business phone because he's not able to stay at an office and answer his phone during typical business hours and still get his work done. They don't do that in my area, they whisper otherwise the mobile gets snatched! And rightly so!
