Long spindles?
does anyone know where or how I can get spindle cut shorter as I have purchased new door handles and they are too long for the thickness of the door

buy a hack saw or find someone with a hacksaw & vice, should bea toolman near by
Do you mean the .25 inch metal bars that go through the door lock and into each handle ?
Use a junior hack saw, the metal is only steel. Hold them in a vice or mole grips. Fiel the chamfer back onto the cut end - it'll help stop the handles binding.
Normally leave them as a long as you can - only you can judge this by seeing how far they go into the handles and by the thickness of the doors.
