Why do new housing estates in the UK have no pubs or shops nearby?
went house hunting in south wales on the weekend - saw some lovely houses in nice estates - but not a pub or shop for miles around, so if you dont drive your stumped. You cant even walk to the pub for a beer - one nice estate had at least a thousand houses on it - we stopped to ask one person about this and he said "nearest pub is about 2 miles but its not great - the nice pub is about 5 miles away. Tesco is about 6 miles away"
Why cant property developers think of these things ? or is it not important ?

unfortunately, we live in a motor economy despite the fact it is destroying the planet- but bear this in mind- I have four pubs within walking distance and three corner shops, yet I rarely go to the pubs and still do most of my shopping at Morrisons!
\property developers are only interested in money- look for an older house in a well established community where the only people who profit from your money are the previous owners (and maybe the estate agent and solicitors).
You sound like you'd be a good neighbour- there are two houses for sale round the corner from me!

Every new estate in my area in the south east / London has a great central complex with a pub, shops, offy and some takeaways.
Blame the Welsh assembly.
the main reason on england..when i asked the designers is..shops etc attract teenagers and yobs so the less facilities the less problems..there is always a pub nearby thou
