Try pepper, heaps of pepper, they hate the smell, My Mum used to do this, as cats drove her nuts, she loved her garden, also once she used Tabasco sauce, i thought that was so darn funny, as had this vision of my mum outside sprinkling sauce and pepper everywhere. worth a try, better than cats pooing and spraying everywhere......
