Any allotment advice?
I'm planning on applying for an allotment, but am a complete novice. What top tips can you give me?
Answers:
Only get a piece of land that you can manage as digging can be hard work.A good spade and fork and hoe are essential but if you can obtain or borrow a rotovator this will work the soil for you.I had an allotment that was close to where I lived but it was too big
and needed constant work to keep the weeds at bay. I now use
a small strip of land at the side of my house for potatoes and runner beans and grow strawberries and tomatoes in tubs and grow bag green houses and lettuce in a cold frame.
Dig!
20 tons of chippings or tarmac!!
Burn the branches, but will still need to dig the roots out. Talk to the people who have the neighbouring allotments, and follow their advice.
Book a rotovator for the day you get the allotment.completely rotovate the plot, and start from new..its looks amazing when its finished and you can plan your own areas.Makes digging alot easier too..
