In the absence of cental heating, whats the cheapest & most effective type of heater to use for a dbl bedroom?
I have a pretty big single-glazed window through which a lot of heat escapes (no drafts, just escaping through the windows)
Room is roughly 2.5 x 5m

Get a Calor gas heater. But keep the doors open.
I've got one for my breakfast room,(bout the same size as your room) Its ace works really well. BUT can make a lot of condensation for some reason.
My gas heater worked out LOADS cheaper than using an electric heater. The canister lasted for months, coz you dont need to have it on for very long and/or can keep it on low.

you can get diy double glazing.very easy to do only need hair dryer. and you can get a electric heater that you can leave on all day and it only cost's about 10p a day to run. any good electrical shop should be able to tell you were you can get both item's from... hope it's some help to you,
Put cling film on your windows that will seal out the draughts then put extra bedding on.You could also buy thermal lined curtains they keep the heat in.
Buy one or two oil fileld electric radiators. they are pretty efficient, look half decent and can be wheeled into any other room when required.
I agree that a secondary glazing system would also be a good idea.
heavy curtains. or invest in a gas wall heater it needs to be fitted on an wall that can have a vent they are really cheap to run and cost about £350 if you cant afford this try love making its free and the best way to keep warm
first get yourself some nice thermo lined drapes to keep the heat from going out the window. then, I would suggest putting in some electric baseboard heat.with the cost of gas and oil these days, it is much cheaper
Buy A Dimplex oil radiator If you can still buy them, They are electric although they are called oil radiators. You can leave them on all the time, they have a thermostat controller and once the room is heated up it will turn itself off. I used to have one when my boys were small, our house had old fashioned sash windows and were very draughty, the radiator used to take the chill off the room for when we put the boys to bed
