We have just finished a new build storey and a half. Only use ground floor.?

Now need to insulate between the two floors. What is best. 200mm fibreglass or rockwool. Money is a factor so does anyone know which is best and how much is rockwool per metre2. Norther Ireland.

Answers:
Depends what the insulation is for. Sound? Heat? Both?

Rockwool is a make and fibreglass is a material. Rockwool is mineral fibre which is virtually the same as fibreglass and the terms are often used interchangeably.

If you want to prevent heat transfer, the thicker the insulation the better. There are foam based insulation boards that have better insulation values thickness for thickness (Celotex, Kingspan, etc). they are also more expensive but are less irritating to the skin when handling.

Sound insulation is much trickier to achieve and only minor improvements can be made by filling floor space voids. You need a resilient material on the upper side of the floor and preferably as much density to the structure as you can get.
What about recycled wool/paper fibre. Environmentally friendly and better insulating properties.
