Do you have the instruction book that came with it? It may be able to help you. It may even have a toll free help line you can call. Or a website where you can get on line hep for your particular model.
If I were you, the first thing I would do is unthread the machine and remove the bobbin and then rethread and put the bobbin back in to make sure there isn't a tangle somewhere you can't see. After that I would rewind the bobbin, take the thread off and rewind it to make sure there isn't something wrong with how the bobbin is wound. Next I would try adjusting the thread tension. After that I would take it in for service. Good luck!
When this happens to me (which is often) I have either put in the lower bobbin incorrectly or I have the wrong tension for the type of fabric and thread. Take a deep breath, have a cup of tea, calm down and check everything again.
Is the "foot" down? (The bit by the needle that holds the fabric steady). It should be.

Has the bobbin underneath ran out? If not, the top cotton will have nothing to tie on to and will just end up in a horrible tangly mess!

Message me if you need me!
Sewing is a "stress-relief" for me--so I sew a lot! You could start by re threading the machine and checking the bobbin; sometimes it gets jammed. You might also replace the needle(a good idea anyway 'cause they get dull). I keep "canned air" close
by my machine and use it often; you'd be surprised how much
lint gets trapped in the machine. The tension should be checked
also. I usually start out on a piece of scrap fabric before actually sewing on my original project. Lots of luck to you!
Check under the plate where the needle goes into the shuttle and use a small brush to clean out any fuzz. Sometime fabric pills and fuzz builds up quickly. Also you could use a new bobbin of thread. Check that the belt that drive the machine is engaged. Is the feeder up so that the fabric can move through. Sometimes settings slip. Look up your machine brand on the webb for a troubleshooting list, or visit a fabric store that sells sewing machines. Good luck!
have you threaded it up correctly? are there any bits of cotton underneath near your spool,it is either one or the other for sure.
In my experience, the most common cause of a problem like this is a0 the threading of the machine - it MUST be in the correct order, and b) if it is not a very modern computerised machine try oiling it. Older type machines crave oil - little and frequent. I have 'unsiezed' many machines simply by oiling them. The oiling points will be shown in the manual, many machines have the oiling points painted in red.
If the thread is tying itself in knots and the machine not sewing, dont force it! It sounds like your machine is threaded up incorrectly, or that the spool is not in correctly, or has not been threaded up properly. It could also be that the tension is not right for the fabric you are sewing. Best thing is to have a look at the fixit pages at the back of your instruction book, or borrow a book if you dont have it, as theres not much difference in them now. If its an old machine, they are usually far better stitchers than the modern variety; I use an 1913 Singer treadle machine; never broken, always sews beautifully, well worth sacrificing the silly stitches you never, ever use on the modern ones!
