Black & Decker products sold in the UK are they made in the UK?
Nearly all the B/D products you pick up have England on them with many products being made abroard are B/D kidding us they are British made?
I sent Black & Decker an e-mail asking this question their answer was very vague. I like to buy British made if possible!
Answers:
Black and Decker are an American company and they did have a manufacturing site in Spennymoor (not sure if it's still there) as well as many others world wide. Each of their manufacturing plants specialises in different lines. i.e. Some things are imported to Britain, and other B&D products are exported.
As for quality.. The general B&D products are designed for lightweight home use. You will need to get a professional tool if you want something heavy duty or for a trade, and pay a lot more for it. But I think that people would be surprised at how many professional tool range brands are actually owned by B&D. Many of the people who say they would never use a B&D tool actually use a brand of professional tool which is owned/manufactured by B&D
They are rubbish tools.
Most of them are made in China or other such low wage countries and the quality is suspect.Beware of products that have a lable "souced in the uk" or EEC this means little other than they may be boxed within these regions !
Probably the most you could expect is for the parts to be assembled in the UK, because manufacturing costs are so much cheaper in the far east now.
Have a look at the product in a DIY store- they let you handle them there so you might be able to see a label/moulded wording on the casing indicating where it was made, if you can't find it on the box.
B & D items are made in China. For what you pay for them, they are good value, they are cheaper now than 20 yeard ago. Goods made in China are of a surprisingly high standatd.
Does it really matter ,, its all crap
I believe they still have asite based near Bishop Auckland in County Durham, though I cannot say which items it was making.
They are multinational with sites all over the world, so the only way to tell is to read the box.
And for the others, I like B&D tools they do the job, at a resonable price.
Sorry.
