Take the u-bend off in the cupboard under the sink and clean that. you can undo the drainage and put it back together it's generally white plastic tubing with a grippable thread at the joints.

Unscrew the sink trap into a bucket and clean it with a warm solution of biological washing powder.

baking soda (arm and hammer) and vinegar. pour in a box , then 1 pint of vinegar . then place your hand over the drain . the pressure will move it on.
get underneath the sink and take out the trap. Use a scrapper and get out all of the gunk since this is where the block would be. you will go a lot longer without another stoppage. It is easy to take out. the pipe coming out of the sink has a screw end on it and the other end just slides out of the pipe going into the wall.

First try a plunger- block off one side tightly and then plunger the other , if that don't work, take apart the trap. that where the block is, unless you put Potato peels in the disposal, they clog up the line.
I have poured a box of baking soda into it, then vinager, it will boil up, clean it and unblock it, if it is a small clog.

best way to is to use a plunger, liquid plumber doesnt ussually work well. if it is hair you may have to take the trap off. if it is an all glue trap with no nut to unscrew you need to hired a plumber or get a new trap, and glue to replace the old one.
If I cant plunge the thing out.
Then I get a wet and dry vac and suck the stuff out.

Put water in the trap after that.to stop sewer gas from coming up.hot water perferably to dissolve any other gunk.

There's a really cheap plastic tool called Zip It that unclogs drains really easily. It costs about $2.50 and always works for me.
Plunger....stinks but always the best.
Take the u bend off.as has been mentioned before.It's easy and then you'll know it's clean and last a lot longer than doing the 'I'll just pour this crap down it and hope for the best' bit.

Caustic soda works, but you should be careful, and read the instructions.
