I'm buying a property which has an asbestos roof, how much will it roughly cost to remove and refit ?

Answers:
We moved into an old Victorian one with Asbestos Tiles. The tiles should last about 65 more years. As long as there is no damage to the tiles and you aren't planning to drill them or cut holes into them then leave well enough alone. I have also tried to get an estimate on our house and was told it would be upwards of £10K to do that in the UK. I was also told that if it is not causing problems then leave well enough alone.

If you are convinced that you need to get this off your house then contact your local council first and find out what you should know before approaching a roofer. Environmental health will need to check that the person you hire is correctly removing and disposing of the tiles. They will also check the roofer is wearing correct protective gear and is doing everything legal to remove those tiles without causing a health problem for you, your family, your neighbours and anyone else exposed to the dust that may be created if you leave this job in the hands of 'cowboys'.

I should imagine you could become liable for their health costs and be sued by EH, Council, neighbours and even the roofer if you agree to allow removal which is not maintaining the CORRECT guidelines.
isn't asbestos illegal to use?
a lot get a price from the experts before you buy it
Your local council can usually advise a good contractor to do it for you.
Also, see if you can get a grant to aid with the costs.
See below.
Hope this helps
You should be asking your surveyor these questions, even he has to refer it to a specialist.

Removal, handling and disposal of Asbestos and Asbestos contaminated material is extremely expensive, and as the previous poster said should be factored into your buying price.
Asbestos roof, what that's going to cost you a fortune proper specialist job that.
I worked on a place that had a bit of asbestos in walls and it cost £1000 to have it removed and it was only a small patch - get a proper qoute from specialists before u buy as it will be several thousand i would guess.
I would have thought that it was illegal to sell a property with an asbestos roof
you won't be able to refit it if the authorities in your area know about it, (enough said, wink wink)
but as to removing it, if you get in a crowd of so called experts ( a very loosely used phrase on this planet) then you will hear all sorts of amazing stories about asbestos (salt required for that)
I would get an overalls, head protection, goggles etc, good long gauntlet type gloves, and do it myself.

Don't go using a con saw or any saw if possible in the removal, as that will do what you don't want to do, and that is make dust, it needs to be handled and placed with care, not a job for a mullacher type person.
but done with care and attention it is easily done right.
before you buy check on pricing it may not be worth the cost. asbestos is expensive to remove
