Help regarding council points for children/overcrowding?
Hello I am wondering if someone can help me on a question I have about the council housing points system. Are babies counted before or after they are 12 months old? I am pregnant and am already on the list for needing 1 extra bedroom but when the baby is born that will change to 2 extra bedrooms. I just wondered when they will start counting the baby? Thanks in advance.
Answers:
it will still be needing 1 extra bedroom. Children of both sexes can share a room until they are 10 or 11 and if you have 2 of the same sex you will only be entitled to a 2 bed house.
In the council housing points scheme babies are not counted until the age of 5 years. If its a case of same sex children sharing a room they are not deemed to be a problem until 12 years of age. Crazy but true.
It changes from council to council, but in most cases the baby now counts for an extra room at around 24 months when it can no longer sleep in a cot in the parents room.
Boys and grls can share a room up to 8 years old, 10 years in some areas.
It depends what town you live in.
