Black spot on leaves of roses, anyone know how to get rid of it?

Answers:
I agree completely with the poster who recommended choosing roses that are blackspot resistant.my guess is your problem is with a hybrid tea rose.there are plenty of roses that are resistant to blackspot, especially old roses (try antiqueroseemporium.com).

Regarding the blackspot on your existing roses, as much as possible get rid of the conditions that allow blackspot to thrive.

What is blackspot? Diplocarpon rosae, common name, blackspot, is a fungus which is the most widely distributed and most destructive disease in rose culture.

Blackspot thrives in damp, humid, warm weather, and by the way, by the time you see the black spots on the leaves, the fungus is well established on the plant.

So.as the poster suggested, get air moving through the plant> prune back severely.consider moving the plant to a location that gets more sun and air circulation (wait until fall). Failing that, check the link in the sources below for a spray program.

Most of all.don't feel like you've let your rose down.this is a tough one for all rose gardeners.

RHS has the answer.
Ferti lome
Triple Action Plus should do the trick.
they don't infect the blooms so why mess with them at all. stop letting the leaves get wet at night or before sundown. next year buy a more resentant type for your area and you won't have a problem with black spot, mildew etc.
Since you already have this rose and are growing it. you should prune your roses so more air will flow through the plants. This will help reduce the environment that fungi love, which are causing the black spots.

Also remove the infected debris on the ground as this serves as a source of disease that could start another infection.

Next, you want to make sure you are providing the roses with adequate water and fertilizer.

Then, you may want to consider spraying. There are many products you can purchase that are made by Ortho that are specifically for roses.

Check out this link. It should help and give more detail for you!
