What to plant in august?
what plants and flowers are good to grow in august in my flower patch.i'd want to last as long as possible. i dont knw much about gardening. Also, what should i plant in my hanging basket.thanx

ok now that we have the stupid answers out of the way!!! some one with a bit of real information can give you a hand!
in august, you can start pansies, and sweet peas( the flowers not the veggie also a cool weather lover) from seed, by the time the heat subsides a bit you'll have them. they love the cool weather. also I would try some herbs, annual herbs like basil, dill,or perennial herbs like oregano, marjoram, since all produce flowers and smell wonderful. also this will help with the bug population, keeping them at bay, as bugs don't like the smell of herbs. in the past, in my flower beds I've grown lettuce and green beans. these are quick growers. I plant tin tacks in August and in September I have a great crop of 6 inch nails. More practical than pretty, though.
Please plant nothing. It will be too hot and you will waste your time and money.
Depending on where you live you can plant all kinds of plants and flowers.usually a person can plant right up to October , without having to worry too much. All you have to be sure of is that the frost in your area won't start until your roots have time to develope.
Chrysanthemums are great fall flowers and will tolerate light freezes. Buy them at any local garden store all ready to set in the ground for your fall color. They should be watered daily however, but will spring right back if they dry out too much and show signs of wilting.
