What can i use to clean a large piece of slate used on the top of a wash stand.?
Answers:
take it from someone who knows, just use wd40 light oil and let dry then buff with damp cloth for a long lasting and durable clean look!
You can just use soap and water to clean slate. To polish it you could try marble polish, places like John Lewis and Waitrose sell it. We had a slate front door step at home when I was a child and that was polished everyday with bootpolish and it shone like black glass, but of course with a wash stand you need something that wont stain things. If the slate is very rough and needs professional polishing try asking a maker of grave stones for advice, but dont pay too much!
Hot soapy water and a sponge. Don't use anything abrasive as it might scratch the surface of the slate. Treat it as if you're cleaning a Teflon surface, and you'll be quite happy with the result. An application of clear was shoe polish, buffed off for a high-gloss sheen, will make the stone look very pretty.
