How is friern barnet a place to live in?

Its a small non descript place which, I think is quite up and coming since the old mental hospital was converted into expensive flats. You are near the tube, Tesco and Finchley which used to be really nice but I think has gone down in the last few years.
Buses are good and there is Friary park which is lovely and has a good cafe and pretty gardens too.
Its pretty central but has that out of town feeling too. I love it and lived very nearby for years.
Nice and peaceful and not too far from central London !
It is quiet and close to London. I prefer Finchley or even better West Finchley (totteridge) they are also on the underground.
