My washing machine is making my clothes smell ! what should I do?

I've tried putting fabric conditioner in there, and plenty of washing powder. But everytime I wash my clothes in my washing machine, it ends up smelling really musky and its really off putting!

I take the clothes out straight away, but still the smell lingers + if I put the dryer on it is loads worse.

What can I do to fix this?

Check your water supply. If that doesn't work, then try cleaning your washer. If that fails, try washing your clothes once a week instead of once a year.
Have you taken the "fluff" filter out recently and cleaned it? It's a little known fact that you need to rinse it out pretty regularly to stop all the fibres from your clothes blocking it up and trapping water - which then goes stagnant.
unblock your drain pipe
My dear boy. You obviously have several fairies trapped in the drum. Either that or you have a goblin stuck in your outflow. Take heart as they dissolve fairly quickly and don't tend to stain clothes. X
Try running the machine through a cycle with no clothes in it. Hot water and hospital strength Lysol. It may take a couple of times to remove the smell. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Use colone or however it's spelt, or some type of body spray, don't put a whole lot, just enough to get rid of the smell, as some people are allergic to it.
You should take out the filter which is usually located towards the bottom of the washing machine. It is usually circular and about 7cm in diameter and contains all the fluff and hair and other horrible bits which clog up the machine. Once this has been cleaned the smell will go away. Hope this helps.
Run the machine with no clothes in it on a full boil cycle with washing powder and some bleach shoved-in for good measure. Make sure your drain-pipe isn't syphoning back into the machine. Clean any filters that the machine has.

Sounds disgusting, could be time for a new machine.
run the machine with no clothes and add a lot of bleach to the cycle. it may help kill any mildew/mold in your machine. maybe try it several times.

also keep the lid to the machine open when not in use.
the washing maching is not the problem, it could be the water, here is the soultion that i tried and it works.it may take longer to do the laundry but its worth the extra effort.during the washing cycle, add 2 cups of distilled vinegar into the water, let the maching agitate for a few mins then shut off the machine allow the laundry to soak in the vinegar soultion for 30 mins, then turn the machine back on to finish the washing, remove the laundry after the machine stops and place in dryer, it may take doing this to your laundry each time you do the laundry, but this a sure way to get rid of the smells, you can also use one cup of baking soda along with the water before adding the laundry into the wash tub,i promise this really works with the vinegar and the baking soda, especially great in using with the bath towels, and the laundry will not have the scent of the vinegar when you wear the clothes,or use the towels
Clean the filter. Look in your owner hand book or on line if you don't have one.
Maybe you have a personal hygiene problem and none of your freinds will tell you?
Try using your neighbours washing machine. If this cures your problem buy a new washing machine, if it doesn`t take more showers.
Run a cycle with just bleach in it, no clothes. This usually helps. It may take a time or two.
your machine needs cleaning. check the lint trap and remove for cleaning. put two to three tablespoon of baking soda into the machine and select a rinse cycle. remember to stop the machine once the water has discharged completely.
clean out the filter in the bottom right hand pannel, then run a wasing cycle twice with no clothes and powder.
The smell is the washing machine. You need to clean it as much as you can, clean the drawers and the inside and everywhere possible (but be careful). There may be a build up of some powder and a water blockage that is causing it to rot and smell so bad. If you can't do this, you may have to buy a new one.
Sounds like a build up of Slim, Get a Packet of Soda Crystals and put the Whole lot in the Soap and Fabric Conditioner Tray,

Put your Machine on a Boil Wash without any Clothes in it.
You will probably have to keep putting the Soda Crystals in as soon as the Water has cleared both Trays,it shouldn't take that long.
Take your Tray out afterwards and give it a good soak in Soda Water as Hot as possible.

Depending on how old your W.M is, if it's over 10years old you won't have the Button to do an Economy Wash to save some Water.

It's either Slim from the Fabric Conditioner or Scale that is around the Heater and in the Pipes,at least the Soda will help to get rid of that.

Can I also advice you to put a Cup of Soda in with your Washing every time you do a Wash,it makes the Water Softer and also makes your Clothes Brighter,it only Costs 51p a packet in Tesco's
I am sure you will be Quids in because you wont need to use Lot's of washing Powder.

You do take your Washing out as soon as it has finish ed I hope?
Hope this Works,

Good Luck.
I had the same problem and I done what all these people have told you to do and what happened was it blocked my drain because it's a build up of limescale and old washing powder. So if you do take there advice please check your filter afterwards and your connection under the sink where the water flows away.
To prevent this happening again use things like limescale prevention tables/powder. Tesco's do one which is there own brand which I really like and you get 30 tablets for £2.95 which is cheaper than the well know brand which costs around £6 - £7.

Hope this helps, Good luck.
check your filter and the water pump - if the filter is blocked or if the water isn't being pumped out fully the machine won't wash the clothes properly
make sure you disconnect the power before opening up the pump etc.
At the bottom of your washer there is a drop down panel, behind this there should be a round valve.Open this(get plenty of rags to mop up)give everything a wash put back you should have a nicer smelling machine. This should be repeated every couple of months
Try putting the machine on the hottest cycle with noting in it. this should be done every so often it cleans all the stale detergent out of the pipes.
Run it on a hot cycle with no clothes in it
let the machine wash without any clothes in,may give it a good clear out.
