Are there any spider repellent I can use in my house?

I have an arachnophobic husband, he screams like a girly when he sees one and will sprint out of the house, knocking anything in his way over.

Its autumn here in the UK and is house-spider mating season so they are prowling all over the place looking for a good time.

My cat is useless, she just bats them about with her paw but doesnt kill them.

Is there anything available I can spray round, or a powder I can dust round the house to repel them?

Answers:
you can try borax or chalk dust to repel without harming them. Sevin dusts repel and will kill when ingested. Mostof your hardware shops whould carry a spray repellent that is useful in your given area.
cats like to catch and eat them
If your going for non toxic, dishsoap or hairspray does the trick. If your looking for something toxic go to your local greenhouse and ask them what they recommend. My husband screams like a girl when he sees snakes, I feel sorry for the chap.
Hedge apples. Your the second person thats asked that in th last 1/2 hour.
remind him spiders clean up for you, catch flies, dust ect. don't collect humans.
Is there, not are there.
rodesby...... 'Is there' is correct in this context. Read the sentence again. Re the question, hair spray fixes them and the vacuum cleaner removes them
I've got some stuff called 'No more spiders' but it doesn't kill them so will be ok for you if you're animal friendly. I got it from Superdrug. Also, spiders don't like conkers for some reason, don't know why but if you place some around an open window they won't come in-much the same as the 'No more spiders' stuff. But, let me tell you a real tip for getting rid of spiders , 1 I've used for many years and never fails. when you see one, Hairspray the little creepy crawly pests!! It stops them in their tracks!
go to a shop that sell aroma therapy oils and buy citronella
mix a couple of drops of this in some water then wipe over your walls as spiders taste with their feet they do not like the taste of citrus and that should keep them from staying around
none, just trap them in glass and put them out and don't kill them.
