I've just recently had laminate flooring put down in my living room..?

but due to the hot weather we had over the summer i've managed to get tar on my trainers and now i've got tar marks over my floor! any suggestions that might remove it? i've tried all the floor cleaners but nothing works!

Answers:
wd-40 will take it right off, and will not hurt the floor.

happened to me a few weeks ago
Try nail varnish remover.
Gasoline
Try chewing gum remover. It may come off if it is frozen.you dont want to use alchohol based removers as this will remove the floor varnish too.
Try the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. Those things work great and I haven't found much that they can't remove.
Someone gave us a hot tub last year and there was rust on the cover. My eraser took the rust right off.

If there's big lumps of tar, try using something with a straight edge to pry the lump off first before you try to clean it.

Good luck!
Hi.you might like to try this, might work but would depend on how thick the tar is. Put down a few layers of kitchen paper or towelling and then with a warm iron, iron over the mark, the heat should melt the tar and it should then dissolve onto the paper towel. Would suggest you start the iron off quite cool and gradually increase the heat untl it works. Do remember not to put iron down on the laminate as it will melt the protective coating. Try on an off cut first to see what happens. This method works with candle wax so might work for tar. Good luck.
Try a product called "goof off".
try paint thinner or tar remover that you buy for cleaning your car. try a small area first on a cloth and don't let it soak into the floor.

let us know how it goes and what method you use.
i agree with do not use nail polish or other harsh cleaners.will damage your floor. I also think you should try the eraser thing.they are the BOMB!! have not found anything they will not get out
Tar is a hydro carbon and dissolves best in things that are also hydrocarbons.

Petrol will work quite well, but could be harsh on the coating on the laminate flooring.

I would try Veg oil first, then petrol, then other hydro carbon solvents (like meths acetone (nail varnish remover).
Star drops
white spirit, note this is not turps ( thats too oily )

Get it from a DIY ship, about £2
You already have your answer. WD40 spray. If you dont know what it is, ask anybody who owns a car :)

DO NOT USE HEAT ON A LAMINATE FLOOR!

You need try nothing else. It works.
Contact whomever put your flooring in so you don't use something wrong and discolor your floor
try methylated spirits that gets rid of sticky substances.
Go into your local DIY shop and buy some Laminate floor cleaner, do not..use nail varnish remover on it..the cleaner cost £2.99p and is either by Stikatak or Floormaster, read the instructions on the bottle to find out which is the best one..
White spirit. same thing happened to me.
