I don't think you should try. Just be friendly to them all the time, not when you think they are throwing a barbecue. Why would you want to attend a barbecue that you were not invited to? Of course your feelings are hurt, but they sound like snobs and snobs are never fun to be with.

i know just how u feel animal lover, i too get left out wen my neighbours have social evenings.& it makes me very angry at times especially wen i'm hungry or have no money to buy my own cans. I suggest you organise your own functions with your own choice of friends if you do have any that is, and take no notice of your ignorant neighbours and wen they not looking steal their drink from under their noses. But watch out for horrible little brats they might have watching for them, some are not to be trusted. Enjoy....
