Can anyone explain to me why I often sneeze once or twice when I first step into bright sunlight ? Cheers :-)?
I've read that it might have something to do with a high histamine level but I'd still like to understand the process involved.
Or maybe you're aware of other sensible explanations ?
(I'm not aware of being allergic to anything).

Yeah me too. It is the bright sunlight that does it to me.
Sometimes when we step into the sunlight, or any bright light for that matter, it can cause a sort of "sneeze effect". You know how right before you sneeze, you kind of squint? That reaction happens in reaction to the sunlight, and it makes you want to sneeze. I hope this helps. What a good question.
i dont know, i dont actually sneeze but my nose does start runnignlike i have a cold it is really annoying lol it isnt hayfever is it?
Bright indoor light or bright sunlight can trigger a sneeze. There's a close association between the optic nerve and the nerve responsible for the sneeze reflex. The phenomenon is known as Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helioophthalmic Outburst syndrome (ACHOO). There's another, photic sneeze reflex, that results in multiple sneezes.
That's Interesting.
Maybe you can go to www.webmd.com and check your symptoms to see if they can provide any further explanations.
im like that.i sneeze up to hundred times no mess.i think u could have hayfever
I sneeze when I get into the shower - I was told by the nurse at work that it was the sudden change in temperature.
dust gets lighter and floats better in sun light giving you alergic reaction to it.
my boyfriend and i both do this.. hehe. I think it must be something to do with the sunlight effecting your eyes ie senses. Still it does make me laugh tho.
Longest Sneezing Bout
The longest sneezing bout ever recorded was that of 12-year-old schoolgirl Donna Griffiths of Worcestershire, UK. She started sneezing on January 13, 1981, sneezed an estimated million times in the first 365 days, and achieved her first sneeze-free day on September 16, 1983 - the 978th day. Her sneezing put Donna's face on the pages of newspapers around the world. Well-wishers inundated her with handkerchiefs and letters suggesting different cures. At the beginning, her sneezes erupted every minute but at the end they slowed down to one every five minutes. "I'm determined not to let it stop me from doing the things I like. I love swimming and I swim for the school," she said.
I dont know why you do it, but if I have a sneeze coming on, if I look at a bright light then BAM! I sneeze! Very weird isnt it?!
