Senior Pob, I do exactly the same thing. I have now introduced it as part of the induction for office juniors who seem cool. Rushing around (or doing the smackhead stroll as its known round here) also gives the impression that one is pressed for time and therefore very busy.
I did that too! Keep going to the photocopier, or walking briskly works too.
Looking like i'm thinking very hard
If your method works, keep using it.
Paper shuffling is my top tip, or pretending to file thats also a good one.
Be sure that your computer monitor isn't visible to anyone else.

Aloha
For me, anything I do makes me look busy
i'm always wiping things down or rearranging things to look neat.
ask people at work for tips to look busy
If your on a computer, the yahoo boss button is good.
I tend to look very seriously at the computer with wrinkled brows, whether it be that I am looking at silly sites like this or, indeed, pornography.

The wonders of knowing enough about computers to bypass the security controls are many.
pretend I'm counting something, using hand gesture and all - no one interupts people when they are counting (well some do but not many)
Yes. Nice1. Walking around is the best way.. I work in resturant n that works for me. lol
Yes, that always works great. Walk around holding some paper or folders and a pen. Walk a little bit briskly rather than dawdling, it makes it look like you have a purpose or somewhere to go. If it's really important to look busy, add in a frown or a slight look of stress.
have muliple windows open so that you can easily switch as needed-must have papers on your desk-ocassionally you need to ruffle through them. Works for me all day-everyday
Sit at your desk pretending to read - give an occasional sigh or shake of the head then move some papers around!!
Boss will think you're taking work seriously!!
Yes, piece of paper in your hand

A pencil behind the ear also works too!

(and in extreme circumstances carry a lightbulb - no one will ever ask you why!)
doesnt take much for me to look busy, as I have no clue half the time on what I am doing.
that works, but i usually grab something else every trip
Have a clipboard handy and point at things
It sucks when you are bored at work with not alot of work to do. What I do is when I am at the desk, I am online but I always have work that needs to be done right next to me. When he walks by I start to do the work, this way he sees me working.
I do about 1-3 hours a day of work and I am here for 8 hours. I know what it is like.
break the computer alot, spend alot of time getting it fixed..
don't make eye contact with boss like people
Pencil in mouth, flicking through bits of paper whilst affecting a concentrated expression of confusion, saw me throuhg most jobs while it was at uni.

OH, you can't beat looking under you desk at plugs and such when the boss walks past
I once had a job that I hated. I used to do a days work in 2 hours in the morning and spend the rest of the day looking busy on the internet - a furrowed brow and the occaisional touching of the phone works well.

I got so good at it my boss thought I was snowed under and asked if he could help - of course I gave him all the work I could and carried on furrowing the brow and touching the phone - he was a complete w@nker!
frowning whilst staring at the computer screen. keep sighing makes you look and sound like you really are trying hard to think .. lots of paper shuffling always a good one.. the photo copier can take up quite a long time aswell.. and i like your idea might have to try that one myself.. as you can probably tell i have to have a few ways as i never do any work.. im in work now and im on the internet answering your question but.. im forwning at the screen and typing really fast so it looks like im really busy!! thanks
Walk around with a mobile phone up to your ear. Turn it off first. You don't want it to ring while you are doing this,
I just log on to here and then type away, works a treat!!!
Yes, also have lots of paper on your desk and loads of files open on your computer. Occasionally look stressed and mumble a few words, then get up and go somewhere (just for a chat with a friend). When you come back say something along the lines of 'glad I sorted that out'
Always have stuff on your table but not too much cos u dont want em to think u got a backlog. Make sure that the paperwork gets changed to different stuff cos u could be made by old stuff.

Walk fast as if u goin to do something urgent.

When on a personal call, hamme at the keybored to make it seem like you are capturing what the person is saying.

At some point im sure that 'looking busy' might be more stressful than being busy
Keep a pen opened between your fingers.

Dial a number/ or check sms on you mobile while going to the toilet or wangdering in the office.

Keep some good books heaped on your desk with a pen in some of them.

Paste some weired/(hard to understand) diagrams on your note-board.

and..

Keep in touch with me for more.
leave a few files on your desk! And keep answering questions on here so it looks like you are very busy on the computer. But have a programme open that is to do with work too, just incase someone walks up to you then you can just click it open! It works for me haha
