Best place in London to do some serious shopping? More upscale, not oxford circus or covent garden!?
I'm thinking maybe in Chelsea area, but any suggestions are good! Don't really need designer-y elite places tho!

you can try places like compton. liver pool street open mrkt, not designers stuff but lots of nice things. depends on what you are looking for.
you should try Kings rd,CHELSEA or Kensington high street there basically the same area and if you have some change try lower sloane street.
How abour Baker Street
Kensington
yeh go to liverpool its got heaps of shops
ull love it
Your right.Oxford Street is a sh**hole, the eastern end (from ox. circ. tube to centrepoint) is totally trashy, tacky and downmarket, but there again it's been going that way for over 20 years (speaking as someone who leaves within an hours walk of the west end)
The western end of oxford street, whilst slightly less trashy, tacky and more upmarket is slowly starting to resemble the eastern end
Now bearing in mind that we are talking about perhaps one of the world's most popular shopping area's and also the 'de facto' standard in international shopping, please explain the following
every 3rd or 4th shop is a mobile phone shop (bearing in mind that we are talking about oxford street here)
You have 2 sex shops (eastern end)
Two supermarkets (or was it 3), Whistlestop, Sainsburys and tesco's
Hole in the wall 'shop' jobs that are two to a penny
And remember that we are talking about oxford street here
At the moment i could name (which i won't as i can't be bothered to) virtually every major high street in each london borough that looks a million times less downmarket, trashy and tacky then oxford street
After all, if you went to Maria hilfer strasse (vienna) or Avenue Louise (Brussells) or Kurfursten Damm (Ku'Damm) in Berlin, i'm sure that you would'nt see sex shops, miles on miles of mobile phone shops, supermarkets, hole in the wall 'shop' jobs like you do in oxford street. Why, because these streets offer a better shopping experience and certainly not the sh***y experience that oxford street offers.not only that you're less like to get ripped of (as a tourist) in these other shopping areas, like you would do in oxford astreet (biggest rip off in the shopping world)
The best thing westminster city council can do (when they decide to stop playing with themselves and get of their fat arses) is to bulldoze the entire lenght of oxford street (except the better known department stores) and rebuild it but this time with slightly more upmarket shops/retailers.An preferably finished before 2012
