I may be leaving the u.k. to Asheville in North Carolina. Can anyone tell me the pro's & con's of this move ?

I am a very youthful woman of 50 trained as a psychotherapist and also an interior designer. So I could find work but if I don't I will just spend my 90 days a year allowance there. Wil I fit in. Is there lots to do? Is it easy to reach a coast. What are typical house prices for a small family home. There are two of us.is the golfing good?

The cons: you are leaving home for a new place and that big of an adjustment can be scary. BUT-from the way it sounds, you are adventureous and that would be the way to pull this off with success. Be sure you have a good camera and if you're able to-the hiking is terrific. The weather will be much different from UK, depending on the season.

The pros: Asheville is BEAUTIFUL. I spent the summer there several times with my uncle and I've been to visit in every season imaginable. There's not always lots to do in the town but lots of things are close by. It's worth it to travel if you can too. Look it up on the web for pictures and stuff. The locals are extrememly nice and welcoming (usually) and it's like a picture book when the seasons change. It's easy to fit in because everything is so easy going. Golfing is excellent but try them all-you'll find a great course. Not sure of pricing-I live in Florida so every other states seems much more expensive to me anyway in the way of living arrangements but I included the cost of living averages from last year. Here's some websites for info. Best wishes!

Ashville is nice never been to the UK but it will be cheaper to live and lots to do, you will also be able to buy a much nicer car for the price in the USA. Easily find a house under 150k
hunny ashville gets coooold in the winter's.and in all honesty i have never been happier with the shopping centers out there.go for it ,you will love it
I don't know about the UK but Ashville is a great place and is very pretty the people are great and there are lots of things to do
It is not close to the coast it is in the mountians, not sure about golfing, pretty sure the cost of living is fairly cheap
I didn't live there but visited

hope you enjoy it
I know I did
pro's,
well like the other guys said its gonna be a great place to go in terms of house price's , car price's , and most of the other stuff for your home will be cheaper aswell so all in all a great place to move to except

con's,
its full of americans!!
Asheville is a VERY nice town. One of the richest families in the US used to live there. They built a mansion and you can take a tour of it.
The city hall has a concert on one night each week where people from the area just get up and play bluegrass music. It's free and the people are great.

The beaches are a bit far away thou. it's a long drive. but Myrtle beach is very nice. Do you like golf ?

If you take a trip for a couple of days to South Carolina, go to Charleston. the Aircraft carrier "yorktown" is there and you can take a tour. Plus you can take a tour of the historic southern houses in the center of town. Don't miss the outdoor farmers and craft market that is held in the downtown area in the same place where slave auctions used to be held. very historical.

have fun!

Hi, i,m an exiled Brit living in North Carolina originally from Bournemouth. I have been to Asheville a few times now and found it quite a (for want of a better word) nice place. It has quite a lively Downtown but nothing compared to a normal sized town back home. The coast is easy to reach, its a good 5 hour drive but thats nothing to people over here. House prices are very reasonable compared to the UK. A one bedroomed flat in England would buy you a very comfertable family home over here. There are lots of very good Golf Clubs everywhere in North Carolina. As Asheville is up in the mountains(not mountains if you ask me) the weather is a bit cooler in the summer(compared to where i am, The Piedmont) and its not just hot at the moment its unbelievably hot and muggy.
