In most cities there are people who will haul away old stuff for free. They then sell it as scrap. Check your local phone book or newspaper.
CT has a program they'll pick it up and pay YOU 50.00. I'ts through our electric company CL&P.
Check your state's website and look for recycling programs.
phone your local council! They will take it and it might not even cost anything! Ours doesn't charge but you have to arrange for collection with them!
