Should we boycott all firms who take their business abroad because it's cheaper?

Should'nt we start supporting the firms who manufacture in this country and not the ones who close factories down and re-locate to other countries because they can get cheaper labour. The more we support our own firms then the more people we will have in work.

defos!!!!!!
so many companies i have to deal with for my job have sent their call centres abroad! its so frustrating!
it literally times 10 times longer to sort any thing out, u have to repeat urself constanly, talk snail speed and often end up hanging up!
i refuse to call them now so i email instead!
i think its such a bad mistake to make as it will cost them so much more in the long run
True. but if a production company can find cheaper labor elsewhere, that means they can put more money into the movie.
YES.
Finally someone smart!!

You are right, Mario. Economic globalization is nothing more than a race to the bottom in which the countries with the worst wages and working rights get the most investments. Usually third world dictatorships or weak democracies, like China, Pakistan or Indonesia.

In this "race to the bottom", we are all losers. Western countries lose job opportunities, see their industries replaced with fast food chains, and their middle class slowly dissapear into poverty. On the other side, people in third world countries see investments arrive, hand in hand with a worsening of their working rights, their wages and the dissapearance of unions and democracy with the support of western right-wing governments.
It's an unfair system that needs to be ended.
more like, "would we".
I already do
Thanks to the decreasing value of the USD, the Canadian dollar is getting closer! There are a lot LESS films being made up here because of that. So I know a few guys that are getting their US papers so they can work down there so you're still paying the Canadians!!
No. Don't get me wrong - I've been a trade unionist etc. all my working life, but in addition to a worker, I'm also a consumer (I'll bet you are too) and as such I like low prices. Goods which are produced in UK are usually dearer for obvious reasons. There fore the answer is not to carry on manufacturing stuff which can be produced cheaper elsewhere, but diversify into activities which are needed but which can only be done here.

(I understand that, for example, many firms setting up far eastern call centres have now started to bring them back to UK through customer demand - see Erin G.)
YES WE SHOULD but i beleive bt use "outsourcing of labour" so we perhaps shouldn,t use this site.Although i do stand to be corrected on this
absolutely but I'm afraid its to late
Oh grow up!
What a great question!

At last someone else has noticed the trend to move business from the UK to other countries to save money.

It is my opinion, that many companies turn to other countries in order to make use of the lower wage rate that is paid.

Take call centres for example, Why pay £6.00 per hour for a British worker in the UK, when you can get workers from abroad willing to do the same job for that same amount per week!

I feel this is a subject that, to put it in simple terms, is pushed under the carpet.

As for boycotting all firms that do this, well I have to agree with you, we should, but in reality where would it leave us? Nowhere.

We are loosing jobs in this country because the workforce are demanding high wages, to which they are entitled to, because of our high prices and tax's.

I could go on for hours on this subject, but I think you know what I am saying. With people like yourself we may be able to change the way things are, but I fear our voice will not be heard until governments around the world take steps to make all workers worldwide equal.
Have you watched the recent program about Indian call centres selling information about UK, US bank account customers?
Not if you live abroad, or work for a foreign company.

Such as ASDA, who are large employers in the local markets.

Look a bit deeper, you may need to boycott your employer.

Are you going to quit?

Doubt it.
