Injured dog advice?

my staffy has pulled the claw out of her rear right paw. it bled the first day but seems to be healing ok, she limps slightly on it (but that is to be expected) should i take her to the vets, can they do anything, she wont keep a bandage on anyway.

Answers:
Pulled claws can be really sore- if you've ever torn a nail off below the quick, that will probably give you an idea of how she feels.

If there is no nail hanging off, and it's clean, you probably don't have too much to worry about. Keep, it clean, bathe it in tepid salty water and keep a close eye on it for any sign of infection. Don't put any ointments on it without talking to your vet. If it's been more than a few days though (From what you said, I'm not 100% clear on when she did it), the fact that she's still limping is a sign that something isn't right- see your vet. If it was only yesterday, then her limping isn't such a big deal.

If there is a bit of nail still hanging off, you probably ought to take her to the vet- every time that bit of nail catches on something, it is going to hurt her and it needs to come off. The vet may just be able to pull it off, or may have to sedate her to clip it off, depending upon how sore it is.

If there is any redness, swelling of her toe, or any smell from her foot, take her to a vet ASAP- this indicates an infection. Infections in this area can be nasty, as they can track up and involve the bone of her toe (osteomyelitis), which can be difficult to treat, and could result in her losing her toe, or even her paw.

Take care
yes take her , it happend to my rotie and it grew again but grew the wrong way , if i had have her checked out stright away it would have saved alot of pain for her
I would take her. She will need painkillers and antibiotics. If you had done the same to your hand, would you go to the doctor?
sounds like she has pulled her due claw out which can be VERY painful, you should take her to the vet so they can sort it out and give her some painkillers.
Provided it's a relatively clean wound with no 'bits' hanging off, she should be fine. She'll probably keep it clean herself, but try standing her in a bath with dettol or something (a handfull of salt also works) to keep it from becoming infected.
The site of the wound needs to be checked for possible infection.it may need dressing and she may need an anti biotic injection. The fact that she is limping is also indicative that she needs seeing by a vet as soon as possible.if you put if off, infection could set in and she could have real problems.please phone your vet. Good luck
Yes it should be removed.check for infection and no need to bandage.it'll only put pressure on and make it more painful. Imagine what a rag nail feels like and then you get the idea. Bathe with mild saline solution (warm water with a sprinkle of salt in) this should help to keep it clean until you get to the vets. She'll be fine.
It's worth taking her to the vet just to get it checked out. She may need an antibiotic injection just to stop any infection from setting in and damaging the nail as it re-grows or even infecting the whole paw.

If she does need a bandage on it for a few days as it heals, they will also be able to supply you with one of those plastic collars that will stop her chewing it off.
best take her to the vet, to get proffesional help. this kind of injury can become infected and she may lose her foot if it is not well taken care of.
take care of her now:)

whoof whoof!
"INFECTION, ANTI-BIOTICS FOR "STAFFY"------> VET VET VET, GO GO GO, MOVE IT OUT , MOVE IT OUT, GET GOING !
No the dog should be fine she will keep it clean just keep
your eye on it should be OK
Kept dogs for years happens lots times
If you need to ask that question on here you should have taken her to the vet.The dog will probably be alright on its own,but what if an infection sets in.What harm could it do to see the vet anyway? No doubt you'd manage to drag yourself to the doctor if you had something wrong with you. Or would you put a question on here?
she needs to see a vet, it will be sore , it may become infected as well. she will need antibiotic tx for it
try putting a sock on it, keep it clean with salty water.
I would think she will keep it clean herself, dogs have a way of healing their wounds (as we know) you may want to water down some peroxide (so it wont burn) and clean it or use a child's hurt free antiseptic wash by band-aid which will both help with infection..the salt would burn id think unless watered down
As far as growing back normal You didn't say which nail it was I had a dog with a nail that looked like a corkscrew she was fine (it was due claw) I have had doge that there nails turned outwards never was a bother vet said better not to cut that cutting could cut into quick and bleed .. as for pain give her an aspirin if she very small a fourth it will not hurt her or smaller than fourth if you want just do not use Ibuprofen it's not good for dogs. Keep an eye on her the next day or two if you feel she needs it take her in

Sure you can take her in now they will give her a shot and meds and charge you or tell you to keep it clean and watch her .. charge you
Don't get me wrong my dogs are my babies I would give anything I have to keep them healthy but I have taken them to the vet and learned a lot ( I have been fortunate enough to have wonderful vets that were like family)
They will probably make sure that there is no sign of infection and may prescribe antibiotics and some steriod cream to help it heal.
As the wound is on her foot she is a risk of infecting it. If you decide that it is healing well and you don't need to visit the vet, I recommend keeping her at home for a few days to make sure it has a good chance to seal up before she walks on hard ground,
Just leave it alone.
Check for infection-but it's highly UN-likey- & will heal just fine w/out interference.
When we moved to UK our two dogs left before us. When they were fetched by the kennels where they had to stay for 6 months under quaratee they were quite upset to see that my one dogs claw was missing. I was told that she had hooked it in the cage they were brought over on the earoplane. The vet at the kennel just left it and it healed by itself.
imagine if you pulled out one of your toe nails, would you go to
the doctors, if the answer is yes then please take your dog to the
vets just to have it checked out.
