Seeking my horse's history?

Carn (Bryncefn Last Commander) is a 14hh dun coloured welsh section D Gelding, aged 17 years. I know he has been in the Sussex area for a number of years. He is registered with the Welsh Pony and Cob Society. Would anyone have any info on his younger years or any info on his parentage? He can be strongwilled and has been known to buck! He has 3 white legs and one black and a white face. Any information would be appreciated.

If he is registered you should have his papers, giving sire and dam, plus a list of all previous owners. I have my papers for my arab, has breeders name, first owners and then mine, you need this document to enter show classes, so it is important you have it. Alternatively you may have to go to the expensive of DNA to prove parentage and to be eligible to show your horse.
Does he have papers? If so they should list his pedigree. You can search his sire and dam through the internet. I did this with my horse and traced her right back as far as Eclipse. If you don't have his papers, the Welsh Pony and Cob Society should have his sire and dam on record. Good luck.
To get the information on parentage, the place to go is the breed society. When his breeder registered him all of that information would have been recorded. I am surprised you don't have the registration document, which as owner you should do, it should be passed on with the horse each time it is sold.

The stud name Bryncefn will belong to a specific breeder and the society will help you make contact if it is possible; they should also help you to trace the missing registration document with his breeding record.

If you go via this route, you should get the most reliable information and start at the beginning of his life. You stand a better chance of tracing his career etc. from there.

In my experience breed societies are very helpful with this sort of thing and know exactly what they are doing.

Good Luck!
The welsh pony society should have some details of previous owners or at least the person that registered him, unless it was you of course. I guess you have looked at his vaccination certificate as some owners will write there names and address on there.
Otherwise i have heard of some good results of people putting small ads in the horse and hound etc for tracing information.
Good luck!
