My Cat is peeing with blood :( what is wrong?

My cat is a 6 years old male moggy, and lives primarily in-doors. He eats a lot (mainly iams biscuits but also kit-kat pouches) and rests most of the day.

In the last 2 weeks i've noticed that he pees quite often and from today his pee is of a bright reddish colour.

What can be wrong with him? I'm really worried.

Answers:
Take him to a vet!! Now!!
You need to take him to the vet, its probably a UTI and he needs some antibiotics to clear it up
cystitis. some kind of infection or inflammation. he could get a urinary tract blockage and die if you don't get him to the vet.
I am not a vet but it could be bladder stones but it also could be many other things. My advice go to the vet!!
take your cat to the vet
probably a uti or bladder infection but take they kitty to the vet asap!!!
Listen to JUDE! She is totally right - if you love that pet, get to the VET!!
vet time
Please take kitty directly to the nearest emergency vet clinic - there are several causes for bloody urin and none of them are good.
You should be worried, and right on the way to a veterinarian! My brothers kitty died four days after the very same thing happened!
Its a bladder infection almost always when cats do this. Its painfull for them and if not treated ASAP they will start peeing outside of the litter box. Your vet will give the cat a antibiotic for this..So the vets just as soon as you can.
Probably gall stones, my cat had the same symptoms a while ago. The vet treated her an she is fine now, but has to have special dietary cat food
Might be something he's ate, if it continues, take him to the vets.
Quit asking total strangers on this site & get him to a vet quickly.
Could be a urine infection or kidney trouble, he really needs the vet quickly
it may well be just an infection, but I would still pop him to the vets
there is something wrong with his kidneys get him to the vets NOW
Urinary track infect or worse. He needs to see a vet, if you wanted this long it will be soon enough if you go tomorrow. Good luck.
This happened to my cat once. Likely to be a urinary tract infection. See the vet right away, as it won't cure itself.
He sounds like hes got a urinary infection take him to the vets he could be and probably is in pain, they will give him antibiotics
It could be a urine / bladder infection . You should get him to the vet and have him checked out because he probably needs some antibiotics to clear up an infection. If the infection is left untreated it could inflame his kidneys.Do it tomorrow. Good luck.
not sure but it needs to be seen straight away just in case there is something wrong. give him lots of hugs to make him feel good
Get him to the vet...this is probably a bladder or kidney infection. He needs treatment immediately. The vet will probably put him on a special diet. This is really important for preventing it from happening again.
Symptoms of UTI/FUS Urinary Tract infection
A plugged cat will often exhibit these symptoms:

Frequent attempts to urinate; the cat is constantly scratching in and around the litter box
Small amounts of urine (wet spots in the litter box are small)
Straining; the cat spends lots of nonproductive time hunched over in the litter box
Painful urination; the cat may cry whenever he eliminates
Blood in urine; you may sometime see blood in the urine spots, but sometimes the blood can be seen only with a microscope
Inappropriate urination; the cat urinates in unusual places, such as on the floor, the couch, or your pillow
First, take your cat to the veterinarian right away. The vet will want to do a urinalysis, and perhaps take X rays, do a CBC, or perform other tests. Important findings from the urinalysis include specific gravity (which measures the functional ability of the kidney tubules), pH (which may indicate infections or stones), and the presence of blood (indicating loss of integrity to the wall of the bladder, urethra, ureters, or kidneys), white blood cells (an indication of infection), or crystals (indicating the possibility of bladder stones). The urinalysis and other tests will help determine a diagnosis and will help in choosing the best treatment
Even with anyone on here was a vet, they would not be able to answer your question without more information and with their hands on your cat.
You need to get your cat to a vet ASAP.
Don't be wasting time asking us lot. Get down to the vet now. You should have been there two weeks ago.
pets are like people in the sense that they get sick with alot of the same things we do.
you are NOT feeding your cat good food.
so thay could be a problem.
you should take your kitty to the vet.or at the very least call the vet.
could have a thyroid problem, a blatter infection, or even worse internal bleeding!

good foods are, "wellness", "science diets, natural choice"
"natures variety". look into these foods.
best opf luck to your kitty.
please don't wait around for answers from people before you atleast call your local vet or pet emergancy room.
He probably has cystitis. Take him to a Vet. This is very painful for him.
hi

the reason your cat is peeing blood is iams he is eating - for sure because my cat who was much older then yours at the time it happened also ate a lot of iams dry food. she does not go out at all.
I took her to vet - the problem was with her uretra - where pee is collecting and she got an infection of her bladder as well. she got antibiotics and was fine but i never gave her iams and she is still alive and well - she is 13 years old!
you have to take him to the vet as soon as possible because the pee really hurts and he might 'cry' while he is trying to pee, this is not a small problem. whatever htey tell you stop giving him iams!
good luck
Sounds like a Kidney Infection or a urinary infection of some sort, I would take him to the Vets ASAP, as it could lead to a serious virus if its not treated probably, as cats mostly get fleas and worm problems around the anal area and the genitals.

I wouldn't leave it for a day or two either especially if he is licking that area quite allot or biting at it..
I hope he'll be OK.
If your p u s s y' s bleedin, your on!!!!!!
