How big does a pet have to be before killing it becomes a no no?
Flush a goldfish and no'one bats an eyelid.
Kill a hamster just because you can... will probably get a few frowns but no'one will REALLY care.
But kill a puppy and you will have your **** kicked all the way to the courtroom and back.
And as for that pony your daddy bought you for your birthday that you just can't be bothered with anymore.. well lets not even go there!
I figure you have to draw the line at the rabbit, I would be interested to see your comments on the matter... they may come in handy in court. Just in case i'm wrong...

I think it starts with response from the animal. If the animal recognizes an act of kindness, IE feeding, petting, etc. then it is wrong to wantonly kill.

The answer to your question is called "Social Norms". In some societies, the death of any animal would be acceptable and unquestioned. However, in the Western world, we are so utterly bored becaues we don't have to worry about meeting our subsitence needs, that we concern ourselves with all these subtopics. Personally, I hate when people kill animals. Just imagine yourself and the fear you would be experiencing.
if you have an animal you can no longer be bothered with call a shelter they will take it in or tell you where you can take it . You seem to be rather distressed with pets. I hope you never have children and then when they are 5 or 6 you decide you cant be bothered anymore. Perhaps you should look into therapy

Most people don't flush goldfish until AFTER the fish has already died of natural causes. And killing your hamster for the hell of it can, these days, get you sent straight into fostercare and/ or court-ordered therapy.
There is a distinct correlation between people who kill pets and people who grow up to be wife beaters, child molesters and murderers.

once they are born I dont think they should ever be killed but your right people on this planet are lazy and mean and heartless and irresponsible so sometimes its best to have the animal put down humanley perhaps because of an illness or something of that nature. This is why teaching and spay and nutering is so so important because there are so many animals out there that dont have homes or starving because of no habitat People need to stop and relize what they are doing. This is the only planet we got and if we dont start taking care of it including gold fish. We are all going to be sorry

I think what you mean is just the idea of it, how people would actually FEEL about it IF it happened, not what they would think about you for doing it.
I think people vary on how they feel about small animals, furry or otherwise; it's hard for me to imagine someone not caring about even a goldfish, they'd have to be really jaded and in pain to not care at all. So they put the attention on their opinion of you, and not identifying with their own jadedness and how far they are from actually doing something like that themselves.
But, since they do (put their focus on their opinion of you), I'd definitely avoid it; and because the animal could be you.

I am a huge animal lover & I hate to see any animal being hurt or killed just to ammuse a sick person with a twisted sense of humor. Sadly, I think that the law is nothing over 2lbs or so - I dont care what kind of animal it is;; it's still wrong.
