Answers:
Do you or your neighbors have cats? Outside cats decimate bird populations.if you do, don't try to feed them as you will be leading them to their death.see what you can do with the cat population & then try to get birds back.
Maybe there are a load of cats around.
Cos they are all in my garden crapping on my car
There must be something they are scared of or a lack of birds.
They take a little while to encourage, if you are in a city, it might be a long while before you build up a reputation in the bird world! Also check there is nothing reflective in your garden- mirrors, glass balls etc are popular as garden ornaments but the flashes of lights will scare the birds off.
have you noticed if there alot of cats in your street this has affected the amount of birds that come to my garden there alot of cats in the area which stops the birds coming down to the table
in autumn all the birds leave the cities and go to the tropics!
Are there cats in the area? Bear in mind that if there has been no food in your garden for some time before, birds will not have bothered going there. Sooner or later they might do a recce and soon, if it is a safe environment and food is scarce, given that winter is coming, I am sure that you will see birds on in your garden, enjoying your generosity.
Depends where it is located and maybe less birds come out this time of year. Or maybe one bird had a bad experience and told the other birds not to come
Birds may need a while to get used to you putting food out.,but having said that I can get quite a lot of birds for a few days and then they all disappear and then they come back weeks later. I saw on Bill Oddie's porgramme that birds which we think are here all year round actually do go to other European countries in the summer and so perhaps they haven't returned to Britain yet. Keep putting the food out because eventually when all their natural fruit and berries have gone then they will eat the food from your table.
Find put what birds are in your area and get food that those specific birds eat.
I have read all the other replies with interest and agree, cats are the main issue. I notice you say you have only recently moved in? Is it a new housing estate? Another reason why there might not be many birds about is cement dust in the air. It gets into birds feathers and they hate it so if you are on a new estate wait until they finish building and then try again.
We moved to our present place 7 months ago, we put a bird table up and being as the birds had Young ones to feed they soon came for the food. We had a job to keep up with them, things seem to be quiet now, I'm certain they will be back in the winter so be prepared. Sometimes if a cat has paid a visit things quieten down for a while but they are soon back. Be patient, keep your eye out for cats and gently shoo them off. good luck.
put God in ur life and the birds will pick up the goods vibes around your house then come
Where do you live? town or country?
Are there any cats around? Also there could be Birds of Prey around, usually the commonest & one of the most ruthless is The Sparrow Hawk. I had a pet one as a teenager & it was free to come & go as it pleased. It grew up with our pup & kitten so none of them saw the other 2 as being any different from its self. But when the hawk was fully grown we Never saw any birds in the garden, BUT we could hear their alarm calls letting each other know there was a cat & a hawk around, so have a listen.
Do you have a lawn? If you do & have put the food there its like putting food in a trap. The people before may have had a cat or a dog, which used to frighten the birds away.
Try a bird table off of the ground, or hang it off branches of a tree.
Also you must not forget garden birds are really on the decline in this country, due to the destruction of their natural habitat
Maybe, in the past there has been no reason for visiting your new home & no food has been provided. They do not know there is a table there. Or, have you looked at your surroundings? Is there sufficient food in surrounding gardens? Or is it the fact that aneighbour has cats which have chased the birds away in the past? Any birds of prey near by? All these things could be a factor.
Hello denny , its nice to see that you've placed goodies that birds enjoy ,inyour garden. It may not be the right tack to follow, why not think of the reason that there are no birds in your garden. There must be something in the surrounds that discourage them from comming in to your garden. Is there a electric pylon or something untoward in the immediate vicinity???
Sit ur Cat and his friends down and ask them!
