Why do ducks start to quack at dusk?

That's when they retire for the night and call for dinner.
They are calling to other ducks to let them know where they are. They are birds that like to flock with thier own kind.
To establish their territory to other birds before they sleep.
Those answers above, and plus sound travels further at dawn and dusk that it does any other time of the day or night. Birds take advantage of this, hence the dawn chorus, etc.
Don't ask me to explain why..I think it's a meteorological thing.!
dunno but I got 3 love birds that start at dawn and are sitll going at midnight and add extra volume more intensity during the goodbits on the telly
They are telling the rest of the flock that it's bedtime
They are signalling to eachother that as its a time of danger, they should all be together- they quack until the whole group have assembled.
Because they are QUACKERS.
because they cannot bark.
