Is my dog pregnant?
I bought my 2 yr old female dog a couple of weeks ago and I think she may be pregnant because she has got slightly fatter and is eating me out of house and home. She was basically a puppy mill where I bought her from and therefore has already got large droopy nipples when I got her. The guy said this was because she has not long had puppys. She has an indentation (sort of looks like a scar) that runs in a line down her tummy as well.. I dunno if this is related. Im wondering if she was already pregnant before I got her and if there is a way to tell without paying my vet £80! to feel her tummy. Thanks in advance.

Ignore the answer above she always has bad comments to make at least you rescued her from this life im having this problem at the moment with my dog but im going to have to wait a few week longer to see if she is pregnant the best thing is to feel her tummy and feel for any movement and every other day squeeze her nipples to see if she leaks any milk this will indicate she is ready to give birth in a few days as they only leak milk days before birth i really would reccomend you take her to the vets tho because if the scar on her tummy is from a c section she will need 1 again and she could die trying to give birth to any more puppies on her own especialy if the scar bursts open during labour this dog as been used throught out her life now she is in a loving caring home do the best you can for her and get her any help and treatment she needs get signed up for pet insurance they will help out with vet bills or go to a free vets who dont charge as pdsa do this they accept donations instead, but just dont leave it good luck
Just take extra care of her for a while.. just wait and you will be able 2 tell soon X!X
What do you intend to do, If it is pregnant what action do you consider taking (if any), if not you have nothing to worry about anyway. As for paying a Vet £80..forget it.
My dog just had puppies and she didn't really eat much more than usual , She may be eating more now because she is happy and feels she is in a secure place now . What the guy said about her nipples being that way is correct . She may have just weaned a litter of puppies . My dogs stomach got really hard and after a while i could feel the babies moving , it was the neatest thing ever . She wont really start showing until 5 weeks and only carry for nine . Hope i was some help . GOOD LUCK !!
I bred my english springers and when my ***** was mated the first sign of pregnancy she showed was weight gain. Pregnancy in dogs is around 60-63 days for memory and towards the end of the pregnacy they start to nest (tidy up, dig blankets, etc) I could also feel her babies kicking 6 days before she gave birth. You can take your ***** to a vet for an ultrasound, could cost a bit but at least you can prepare yourself want be able to tell until a certain stage in pregnancy. Although it is not your fault our pup is pregnant it is your responsibility now to care for your dog and support her no matter what the cost. Normally here in Australia we can just ring our vet and ask for advice at the cost of a local phonecall. I suggest if you suspect she is pregnant then get some official information off your vet or visit your local canine association and maybe go dwn to a dog show where breeders will give you some helpful experienced information.
If it really is a scar, she was probably used to transport illegal drugs. I'm glad she survived that ordeal.
Is she shedding a lot? If she just had puppys it will take a little while for her appetite to slow down, she will get slimmer, she will stop shedding, and she will move around more.
Good luck to both of you.
she could well be pregnant, the thing that concerns me is the line down her tummy, if shes had c/section then if she is pregnant the chances are that she may need another one. squeeze one of her nipples because if they are big like you say then she will be almost full term and milk will come out. does she tire quicker than usual? what breed or breeds is she?
Why did you buy from a puppy farmer and allow him to buy in another to breed from? You can get ex breeding b1tches from rescue centres and not line the pockets of puppy farmers. Why on earth didn't you take her to the vet for a check up the day you bought her to ensure she was healthy?
Why would you have to pay the vet £80?
I'm sorry but you just don't sound like a very caring or responsible dog owner if you are more worried about finding out if she is pregnant than the amount it will cost. If you cannot afford £80, you certainly cannot afford to rear a litter of puppies as that costs hundreds of pounds. What if the hard lump you are feeling is cancer?
I think you need to hand her to someone who will take care oif her properly since she has gone from one uncaring person to another.
