My dog eats 3 meals a day, has a walk 2wice a day, is upto date with all his injections etc, but is still super skinny?, We tried to feed him more but that just made him sick, a friend said worms, but hes not long had the tablet and been tested?
We got him from the dogs home a year ago, and hasn't changed in weight? hes just over one year old? HELP i love him

Answers:
What is the breed? You may have to change the food. My friend has a German Shorthaired Pointer who, in order to keep any weight on, has to be on a "high energy dog" brand food. sorry, don't know the name. Ask your vet about it.
I would say worms too
take him to the vet and tell them all of the symptons though it could just be a fast metabolism

good luck hope hes ok...x
What type of food are you feeding him. A lot of brands have fillers like rice or grain that dont provide mant nuturients. You may need something higher in protein. Talk to your vet.
Someone I know had a problem like this with their dog and it turned out to be a thyroid problem. He had to have special food from the vet for a while and tablets I think but he's fine now, happy and healthy! Take him back to the vet and stress you're problem and that you're worried and mention this, good luck and dont worry (hard not to I know) but im sure he'll be fine!
Three meals a day is a lot of food for a dog, so if he has been checked by your vet, and up to date with all of his worming treatments, and is still super slim, he could be just that kind of dog........I should be so lucky!! VBG
he's actually a gerbil
Check out his genes as well, it might be hereditary.
Ask a Vet he may have a chronic illness. Worms usually segment and this eventually shows up like grains of rice in the dogs stools.
I have a Boxer, he is fed twice a day and walked three times a day, as they have so much energy..and these type of breeds are built to be slim.
What breed is yours, that maybe the reason why?
I would def get him checked out at vets or you could ask for advice over the phone..!
have his stool checkedfor parasites
while their check for other issues like broken ribs
pancreaic issues
whatever he's got his food and nutrients aren't being absorbed
a teaspoon of peanut butter may do the trick
if his stool is runny then worms are the issue
is his tongue white or pink
how are his gums and whites of his eyes
toe nails broken?
these are all signs of diffeciency
good luck

Ok, well you don't say what breed of dog you have. Some are naturally thin whereas some are naturally bigger. Perhaps you are 'over-walking' him. Some species do not need miles of walking each day, whereas some do. My advice would be to go onto a web page for your breed and see if you can pick up some more tips there. Worms would make him pot bellied not skinny. If he is a mixed breed then just accept him for what he is, not what you think he should look like. Hope this helps.
probably worms.but he maybe going thru a sort of phase .consult ur vet.
Some dogs stay thin and will not gain a lot of weight and don't try to make gain a lot ow weight it will not be got for it.
here are a few options, being young they have higher metabolism until around as early as 4, but you want to feed him a food w/ more protein, such as science diet, i know its expensive but it has less fillers so actually he will eat less of the food, and sometimes they can have worms just after being treated, you cant always see the worms, try the food and if that doesnt work take him to the vet, if it was me, I would take him, but since he isn't actually losing weight, just not gaining it, I would try the food, some people go as far as feeding them weight gainer for animals. you are there w/ him, you know how he acts, but i wouldn't wait no more than a month or two.
Ok...***WHY**** on earth would you want a *FAT* animal?

DUH?
You never heard of GENETICS?

and..feed ONCE day!!
if its not worms, it could be his thyroid. get a professional opinion though.
You didn't mention breed. Some dogs are naturally thin. As long as you feed him proper, give him plenty of water and exercise, he should be fine. If he gets sluggish and acts sick, then take him to a vet, otherwise, having him a year and he is ok, I wouldn't worry too much.
consult a good vet. and soon.
take him 2 the vets could b worms i have a pup 7 months old shes a bit like that people say she will grow in2 her feet he'll b fine but get him looked at xx
i have a habit of picking up stray dogs, i have one at the moment that i picked up two years ago, she was very skinny and malnourished, i took her to the vet because she could not put on any weight, and i was told that when a dog is badly malnourished it takes up to 12 months to get nourishment back and a further 12 months after that to build its muscle back, as long as the dog is eating, there shouldn't be too much to worry about, but seeing a vet for peice of mind won't hurt. If you want more information my email is glrybnaughty@yahoo.com Good Luck Glory
try the vet it may be anything even a higher matabalizim
u can get foob to put on weight just as u can to slim adog go to vets if worried might burn the food off quick if he is ok in his self dont worry u get fat and thin humans so y not dogs
if he is a greyhound or something along those lines
then it could be meant to look like this it all depends on the breed
What kind of dog do you have i mean whippets etc are really skinny.if worms are ruled out then you need to get him to the vet's and have test's done. No dog needs 3 meals a day! how is his poo ? does he have dioreha? these are just some things you should be discussing with your vet.
What breed is your dog, and is it getting the right dog food for his breed? It does sound like it could be worms. Get the vet to double check. How long are his walks?! A dog can be over-walked as well as under-walked. Either do a Google search for your breed of dog to get further help, or ask your vet. Good luck, and let us know when he recovers ;-)
