Are some breeds of dog more intelligent than others?

Answers:
The simple answer is yes

The less simple answer yes, but depends on what the 'task' is.

This site gives a ranking 1 to 80. don't know if doggie people would agree with it.

are some races of humans more superior to others?
Aye.
I think so. That's why certain professions use particular breeds for their needs.
Some learn faster than others, but I'm not sure if that would make them more intelligent
as gene hackman said in that subraine film ( i cant remember the bloody name now soz) that a jack russell is the smartest dog know to man... ( u know the one it has denzel washington in it)
Of course. Dogs that are used as Seeing dogs and also working dogs i,e farm dogs, police dogs. These as very intelligent dogs.
Absolutely. Take the poodle and the bulldog for example. My uncle has a poodle and I have a bulldog. My answer is not based on training techniques either. It's just obvious.
goes without saying, ive got a right old dog that works for me and u should see her typing skills and boy u shd see her with a crossword puzzle !
they certainly are:-

Border collie (brilliant and clever)
Old English sheep dog ( dim as they come)

should know as I have had both
I knew a boxer with two GCSEs.
yes, you certainly wouldn't get an Afghan hound doing obedience! its usually the pastoral that are most intelligent eg collies shepherds etc. Then the sporting like spaniels and retreivers, then the terriers(but they are too stubborn for their own good!) and then the hounds.
Yes
Takes a Dog to know a Dog.
it depends on the individual dog and it's temperament but basically some dogs are easier to train than others.
yes boxers are the smartest
sort of - every dog owner will tell you that there dog is more intelligent etc (like most parents and children)

pedigree dogs are bred for specific reasons so 9/*10 their instincts will be to do a specific task ie herding dogs. Doesnt make them any more intelligent than your average mutt just more prone to that sort of "work"
As a general rule, yes; although it has as much to do with other factors. A strain that has been bred for working will have an advantage, pups that have had an enriched environment will also have an advantage.
There are different kinds of intelligence though; there is social intelligence, and problem solving intelligence.
There are individual differences, but dogs bred for appearance tend to be less smart. A german shepherd or gsd x lab, or a working collie will be smarter than, say, an Italian Greyhound.
Yes. Dachshunds and German Shepards are really smart dogs.
We tend to think that if a dog is easily trainable it is intelligent.

Some dogs which are thought of as intelligent will continually repeat the same pointless behaviours if asked to do so.

Dobermans are reputed to be the most intelligent as they are very quick to learn but they can be very difficult to handle because they tend to think for themselves and won't do anything that they consider to be a waste of their time!
I think it depends on what you mean by intelligence my West Highland White Terrier is good at solving puzzles but only obeys commands now and again but my Yellow Lab obeys commands every time but I think my Westie is smarter because he always thinks whats in it for me whereas my lab would jump of a cliff to please
yes, depending on how you define intelligence? all breed have specific traits, if you are looking for some thing specific in a dog breed try these links below.

you can look them up and decide for your self.
Oh yes
i think collies have to be the most intelligent
yh deffinatly my dog is sooooo stupid and my friends dog is really clever lol
definately yes*********
In my experience with dogs i have found the following results:

Red Heads- inteligent and funny.

Brunette- Not quite as inteligent

Blondes- thickest thing you could ever meet
i think that it depends on the dog itself.

i personally think that pit bulls are really smart dogs.

also dogs are smarter if they have a lot of human contact. if they live in the house they will be smarter than if they are outside.
