My Jack Russell is chewing and scratching its hind leg, it is pink and hair is missing. What shall I do?

Is there anything I can put on it?

my Jack Russell mix has just done the same thing--i took him to the Vet, who gave him a shot of something, and told me to get him some Benedrill-spelling?---i went to Wal-mart, per the Vet's instruction, and bought a bottle of Generic Benedrill, 100 pills only $ 3.44--25 mg Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride ( tablets ), this was OK for the dog--he weighs 30 lbs--the vet says give him one pill every 8 hours--i give him one in peanut butter, AM & PM..also he told me that it was an allergic reaction to fleas, that fleas were especially bad this yr because of the heat ! he also told me to get Bayer's lawn and garden spray, and spray the shady areas of my back yard- from Lowe's--he said sunny areas of the yard and lawn are OK--he said spray the shady areas only--and also gave me a spray to use on his tummy, to help alleviate the scratching till the pills kicked in ! the benedrill has helped a lot--i sprayed the yard also--vet said to spray the shady areas low to the ground, and up to knee high-human knee- to be sure to get all the fleas !-he loves getting the medicine-cause its in a glob of peanut butter--he is almost all better now--take him to the Vet to confirm that it really is fleas, and he can give him a shot, to get some instant relief--then use the pills, and the Bayer's spray !! the spray i got was Bayer Advanced, Triple Action, Insect Killer, for Lawns and Gardens, in a tall blue container--32 ounce size-now 40 oz-8 oz free at Lowe's-Home Depot probably Ok too ?!! costs $ 9.95 + sales tax--be very carefull with it--it is very smelly--wear a face mask when spraying the yard-- i used a two gallon sprayer--used 3 oz of the stuff per gallon of water, to dilute ! good luck to you--hope your JR terrier is feeling better soon !!
take your dog to the vets. It could be fleas, or he could have an injury that is infected or something
Take him to the vet, he will either have a topical problem on his skin or it may be a sign of anxiety. He deserves a proper look over, take him.
fleas and a vet spring 2 mind
Take it to the vet
take him to the vet- its probably fleas, but could be an allergic reaction to something or even mange. only a vet could know for certain.
Kick it in the bol***ks
take it to the vet for proper treatment.
put a muzzle on
I would take the dog to see the vet.
That's called a hot spot.
Take him to the vet and he'll fix him up by washing the area with a special soap, I forget the name and he'll probably give you some ointment like Panalog or something to help heal the area.
For now, just try to keep the area clean with some Hydrogen Peroxide.
Plain water is okay too if you just want to keep the area cool.
Take him to the vets before he chews his leg away.
Could be fleas or mites or some other allergic reaction- put a cold compress on it (bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel) to soothe the itching for the time being and please take him to the vet- this must be really sore.
Don't put any 'human' medicine on it as he'll lick it off and make himself sick.
some times a vet will put witch hazel on it but do not like him lick it at all DO NOT LICK
take it to the vet it could be mange
First take the dog to the vet to see what is causing the itchiness - fleas, a rash, etc. They will probably give you a topical treatment to stop whatever it is.
My advice is the same as everyone else's - take him to the Vet and as soon as possible. If you are unable to find the necessary funds, go to Blue Cross, the address will be in your local phone directory. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to use proprietary medicine for animals - they may not be the right ones and could make the situation worse.
You Sould Take Him To The Vet.
benedryl is your friend. 1mg to 1lb. best bet for him would just be half of a 25 mg capsule. be sure its coated with the shiny clear stuff so he can digest it better. im guessing allergies. but if it turns out to be something else, id be surprised.
I would go to the vet.theres two types of benydrl one that you can use on dogs is childrens with the chemical diphenhydramine. That you can use never use the one that has anything else in it.That might help. also you can try a little cortozone cream .I dont like the sprays they can have rubbing lachole in them and burn.I would go to the vet and make sure theres no flea problems. It could just be an allergic reaction to something. Some vets prescribe predisone I really dont like the use of it unless its a severe problem because its a harsh drug for a young dog.Good luck.I have been looking for a jack mix puppy and there hard to find .You are lucky to have a jack
take him to te vets?
Take it to the vets, they will be able to tell you what is wrong it is most likely fleas but he could need his anal glands emptying, and don't listen to 2 of these idiots on here, there just saying ridiculus things that could get them in a lot of trouble.
