"Would you say a German Shepherd needs daily brushing and one or two baths a year?.?

Answers:
that sounds about right, unless he gets into something stinky.
Even if brushing isn't needed, it is great for bonding and skin health.I have raised 2 GSDs and that is about right..they shed so much if you don't keep up the brushing.
maybe not a daily brushing, unless it's really shedding badly. and i wouldn't really categorize number of baths per year, because sometimes you need to give your dog a bath more than twice a year (it just depends on how badly the smell or how dirty they are).
I would say that!
I would say a German Shepherd needs daily brushing and one bath a MONTH!

once or twice a year? yikes.
you need to brush them daily, and bathe them at least once a week, If you love your dog.
yes
Weekly brushing would be fine. You are right on the baths. Too many are bad for a dog.
one or two baths unless it's a show dog or something
Yes, unless the dog is visably dirty or very smelly, you don't need to bathe them. Daily brushing will prevents mats, and does wonders on the coat.
Yes, to start.but IT DEPENDS!

Does the dog stay outside for house, then the feet need to be cleaned each time they come inside.

Does the dog stay around other animals..they can catch fleas.

Most animals get worms from fleas in their paws...interesting huh..
I read in a book that dogs need brushing and a few baths a year.I disagree with that. They think the natural oils will help them, but they are wrong too. I have a dog, and I haven't given her a bath for a few weeks, and her skin is all dry. If I was you, I would give your dog a daily brushing or at least 3 times a week and every two weeks, a nice shampoo bath and remember to rinse very well. After the bath, brush your dog when he's all dry and a treat to reward him!

Daily brushing helps with smoothing out the coat of the dog and making sure that the hair doesn't get matted. As for the baths, one or two baths ensure that the proper oils coat the skin of the dog and it doesn't get dried out. A bath once a month for really smelly dogs should be fine I think, but if smell is a problem for your dog, cologne made especially for dogs should help.
That sounds about right to me. That's what my German shepherd gets, and she doesn't smell funky. Her coat is pretty and shiny, too, since the brushing cleans out the dead hair and stimulates the oil production in her coat.

Personally, I've never believed in bathing a dog (especially a "self-cleaning" one like a Shep) every month. I think that as long as they're brushed regularly and don't smell doggish, they're fine.

One note: I do give my dogs a tablespoon of Wesson oil on her food once a week because it seems to help her coat stay shiny. A vet gave me that tip years ago, and it's always seemed to help.
Daily brushing, yes. 1 or 2 baths a year? I bathe my single coated dog once a month! The answer really depends on how much time the dog spends outside, whether or not it is an actual working dog, the climate in which you live and how often the dog is allowed inside - but at least a bath every season = 4 per year.
Yes, daily grooming, because that's the only way to check the mouth and feet before small discrepancies turn into big, expensive things at the vets.
Baths when filthy and smelly.
Yes maybe, but it depends on whether you want to trek up into the hills everyday to find him whilst he's working minding his sheep; and whether you can get someone to mind his flock whilst he comes back for a bath. Doesn't just apply to German shepherds either; it's pretty much ALL shepherds I'd say!
It depend on if the dog is inside or outside. If it is inside, then at least everyother day. Outside, then once every 4 or 5 days. Try giving it a bath every month.
uh dude he needs more baths than that!!
like one on monday,thursady,sunday!
and i would brush him in the morning and at night!!
hope this helps!good luck!
Hi, I used to comb out the dead hair every 2-3 days, and groom her properly at the weekends, when I had more time.

I used to bath my GSD when it was boiling hot outside, at least once a year and then take her for a long walk to get her dried off.

If you want to get your GSD bathed more, perhaps go to place where they have all the equipment to bath her/him indoors, at the start of the spring and then bath her/him when the weather is still hot though September, so she/he is nice and clean for the winter.
brushing a couple of times a day, after walkies is good, and bathing every few days.
I have a long coated GSD and only brush her once a week, but she gets quite smelly so in summer she has a bath once every two weeks but i dont bath her in winter as she takes forever to dry.
Is it long or short-haired? If Long daily brushing 2 to 3 times a week for short and as they moult year round it must be kept up. The baths are OK as they have a double coat and the top layer is harsh and oily and bathing them too often isn't good for them. If they get dirty a wipe over with a dog wipe (any good pet store sells them) and a good brush is all they should need!
WOW!
A ***BRILLIANT*** statement!! Thumbs UP!
Just about PERFECT.except .

REMEMBER **NAILS**-need clipping!!
if shes an inside dog then id bath her about 2/3 times a year and brush her for 10/15 minutes a day
my goodness do u like smelly dogs my dog gets a bath once a week. And he doesnt have long hair like a german shepherd.
We have a German Shepherd and we bath him only when he gets muddy or smells and we doint brush him daily they doint need brushing daily ours is 18 months old.
If your dog is generally a clean dog ie. not rolling in fox muck or anything like that then baths twice a year will be fine as too many baths will cause your dogs coat to lose its shine. Brushing depends on how much it is sheading, if its not too much then once every 2 days should be fine.
yep sounds about right. Bathing dogs is fine, but it is not really natural
