How can lizards drop there tails and not bleed to death, my cat catches them there tales just pop off?

Did you know that if you cut off 1 or more of starfish's fins, they would grow back. Lizard was just built that way as a defense mechanism.
seriously? I don't know! Ok here you go. This is known as caudel autonomy more simply referred to as tail separation.. it breaks off as a defensive measure.
-When handling a lizard, DON'T pick it up by the tail. The tail may break off! This is a defensive mechanism. When a predator attempts to catch it, the lizard can "drop off" its tail. The tail will then wiggle violently and the predator will then be distracted and "catch" the tail while the lizard escapes. Eventually, the Leopard gecko will grow a new tail, but it will be shorter and bulkier than the original. This is known as caudel autotomy
-Many lizards can shed their tails by contracting the tail muscles to create a break. When the break occurs, the surrounding muscles separate between the segmented muscle blocks. The discarded tail keeps wiggling for a time, distracting the predator while the lizard escapes. Some lizards can then regenerate at least part of a new tail.
Wow - I never knew that.. is kind of creepy - what do you do with it .. pick it up.. hahaha :o) What were you thinking the first time that happened - I would have panicked. I never knew that ! =O
:o)
Because the part that comes off is like dead skin cells, like our hair or fingernails - they grow back too!
its like we cut our nails and hair.we dont die.right? the lizards tails grow again when they drop it..
It's one of those weird animal things. A lizard can as you say "pop" the tail off. The tail keeps wiggling from nerves giving the lizard his chance to get away. Lizards will always regrow their tails, it is their form of defense.
the mystery of lizards ,they do that so that they can survive other things who want to catch them by grabbing their long tails .(that is very clever)
lizards suposedly come from out of space ,and we are suposed to be at least partly related
because we were bred by the Anunaki (a lizard exstraterestrial race )the reptilian brain in our head is a souvenir of them
and many people are actually born with tails .,but we have forgotten how to regrow them,if they are pulled of.
yes its a self defense mechanism, so they can escape predators like your cat, shouldnt let the cats do it too much though cos if they dont grow back before cat gets them their tail will end up shorter, and he'll lose his balance
Their tails fall off as a defense mechanism, that way hopefully the predator will go for the tail while it's wiggling around while the lizard makes a speedy get away.
Only a few types can do this, the geckos and skinks and legless lizards. They do this by contracting their muscles above a weakness in the tail bones and dropping the tail. they constrict the blood vessels to restrict blood loss.
honestly i cant fingure out it happens all i know is that it does, but the sad thing is, is that once a lizard loses its tail, it can only re-grow a new tail once.
I used to live in the Jungle and the lizards did it all the time. It is a defence mechanisam ( for when it is scared ) it lets go of its tale when it thinks a preditor might have cault it so it is a natural thing therefore it doesn't bleed other wise what would be the point in escaping just to die later?
It's a defensive mechanism, when they are in the wild and a predator catches them by their tail it pops off, and don't worry it grows back. Also if you ever notice that the tail stills moves around when not attached to their body, well that's because the tail distracts the predator so the lizard can sneak away.
They consrict the muscles around the base of their tail. When they do this, it also cuts off circulation. The tissue then repairs itself, giving the lizard a new tail in sometimes around 2 weeks. Most species can only drop it once.
Blood don't run all the way to the end of thier tails theres a certain point which it stops and as long as the tail is cut off befor that point they are just fine and it will pop off it helps them to make a faster escape! If thier tails were to get cut off beyond that point they will die and thier tails won't grow back!
ya they do it for defence but they dont bleed to death cos all the muscle fibers contract to provent blood loss but dont let the cat get the little guy too often or his tail might not grow back or it could be deformed
they just do
it is a defence mechanism for lizards - they can all do it. They just grow new tails. It is so they can get away quickly
they can drop their tales because it is a their way of escaping imminent danger but it grows back only a darker colour
