How can i train my 8 month old kitten to use the garden to go to toilet instead of a litter tray?

Answers:
Every day move the litter tray slightly nearer to the door (the one that leads to the garden is best) then you need to move the litter tray outside so it is next to the door and then eventually get rid of it altogether. The cat should start going toilet outside instead. This needs to be done gradually as if you just move it from one side of the room to the other, it can upset the cat.
Same way you trained her to use the litter tray.
his instinks tell him to go in a litter box he wount go outside
Why would you want to do that? Where's she going to go in the winter, duh?
If she's already trained to go in the litter box, try sprinkling some litter in a spot in the garden and set her in it. She'll get the idea.
Put the litter tray in the garden?
take the tray away they will soon get used to the idea
If she uses the litter tray just put it in the garden ?
you can't because your kitten can not go to the bathroom in the garden it have go to the litter box
Every day move the litter tray nearer and nearer to the back door. This wil only work if your cat always has outside access, do you have a cat flap? If so, great, if not, then it's not fair to expect the cat to wait until you let her out, get one fitted.
Good luck = )
put the litter tray closer each week to the back door as she will get used to it where it is as each week passes then put it outside and after another week or so remove it as then she will do her thing in the garden then make sure you have ether sand or soil for her in the back garden.
If you have been using a litter tray, take the tray closer and closer to the back door showing your little one where it is every time you move it. After about a week you will probably have it close enough to the back door to put it outside. Again move it to the spot you want your kitten to use then take some of the old grit and add fresh as well to that spot. Your kitten should then use the outdoors rather than the indoors. Just make sure s/he can get out!
If you start off by introducing small amounts of soil into his litter in the tray, then gradually make the ratio of soil greater than the litter. You kitten will come to realize that he or she is allowed to use soil.Good luck and lots of love to you and your little kitten .
keep it outside for the day and just bring it in for the night and she/he will get the idea
Put the litter tray in the garden.
Why would you want her to use the garden. Keep her in the litter tray. What a good kitten!
All the answers about putting the tray in the garden are correct. I have two kittens of 6 months. As soon as they had all their injections, I fitted a cat flap and put the litter tray next to the door. A few days later I put the tray in the garden. A few days after that, I got rid of the tray. All very easy.
Very simple, put the litter box in the garden for a day or two. You can just take it away after that, most cats are stoked to go outside instead of in a stupid box, you may want to keep the box somewhere inside for when it rains or the middle of the night. I did this with my cats and I don't think they've used the box in months but it's there just in case.
each day move the tray closer to the garden and eventually put it in the garden then after leave a bit of litter for her to smell, she will get the jist of it eventually.good luck
Over a period of a couple of weeks slowly move the litter tray towards the back door and then out into the garden. Instinct will take over once the garden is reached.
wen she goes in the litter tray, put some poo in the garden and wen she squats to go, run her to the spot where u want it to go. after putting it there wenever it goes and smelling its own poo, it will soon learn where its new potty place is. =-)
Put the litter tray outside
I agree with everyone as far as, when the poor little kitten, that is trying to do the right thing and poop in the litter box of it's nice warm house..you put the kittens nose to it and put the kitten in the garden, with the box at the same time (you could rub its nose in it, while we're torturing it anyway). By the way, cat urine will KILL a garden with any flowers in it, hope you just have a bush.Poor, poor kitty.(It "IS" Winter where you are, right?)
I foster cats for a local charity, o i get new ones about every three months, i always have them go outside..I just move the cat tray out into the back yard and make sure they can get back in and out when they want to. After a day or two I'd take the tray away.

Never had a mishap yet!
I'm not sure why you want this? The cat urine will kill any plants. When you work in the garden you will have to wear gloves in case you come into contact with the feces which can have diseases. (esp if the cat is an outside cat and eats mice) The cat may also die if you fertilize your garden and she gets any on her paw and licks it, or eats it.

You will also be encouraging her to use other people's gardens and flower beds and you risk your cat's life when that starts.
Start moving the cat tray closer and closer to an outside door (preferably the back door). Do it gradually over a few days and show him / her each time where it is. When it is closest to the door, the next day, put it outside close to the door until eventually you have moved it into the garden. Then take the tray away. Bingo! It worked with all my cats.
I've two cats and up until 6months (didn't let them out til they were done) they used a litter box. Once we let them out into the garden they seemed to work out pretty quick they could go outside too, no help needed. Now they only use the litter box at night and if they can't find any soft ground.

Cats are pretty smart they'll pick it up!

But do make sure you have a litter tray about at night if they can't get out, no little accidents!
