Dogs and cats growing up together, what age is best?
Answers:
very old then they cant chase each other because they are too old to run.
younger than 1 years old thats what i did and there best friends really
The smaller and younger they both are the easier it will be. Getting an older dog that likes to chase cats and a cat that's terrified of dogs will be disastrous! Raise them together and they'll be just fine. Good luck!
as young as poss
when they are like 10 months old cause they will get use to each other
You often seem able to get a dog of any age to adapt to a kitten,I have known this happen a few times.
I've always had both cats and dogs and sometimes, I've gotten a kitten and brought them in the house with an older dog or gotten a puppy with my older cat. They've always played together and slept together and gotten along just fine.
My 11 year old cat just had a problem with my bringing a boxer puppy into the house and it took about a month for her to come downstairs. I had to move everything of hers, food, water, litter box, up there but now you can't keep the two of them apart.
An older cat will always tolerate a younger dog.
Having them grow up together is usually best- from the time they are kittens and puppies. Although I have known members of one species to 'adopt' members of the other.
we had a 5 year old dog and we got a cat .we werent sure so we asked the vet and he said put them together they will soon sort it out between them selves . that is what we did and they got on fine for 12 years together when the cat died the dog missed him and was always looking around for him
I've heard that a cat can be friendly with any animal that it's introduced to before 6 weeks of age. This means that kittens born in a home with other animals will learn to accept those animals instead of fear/hate them. But this isn't always the best option since kittens shouldn't be separated from their mothers until they're at LEAST 8 weeks old.
So the basic guidelines are..the younger the better. When I was a kid, we found a stray dog (corgi/sheltie mix). About 6 months after that, my dad found a male tabby kitten, who was MAYBE 6 weeks old. At first, Buster (the kitten) didn't care for Jake, but soon got used to him. Throughout their lives, they were buddies. Even sleeping under the Christmas tree all curled up together:) My female didn't cuddle with Jake, but she accepted him as part of the family.
as kittenss and puppies is the best age
