Can dogs look up?

I've never questioned a dogs ability to look up until watching "Shaun of the Dead". Ed claims that dogs can't look up. When he says look up I believe he means straight up. None of this, their head is a little bit up buisness. But come to think of it I don't think I ever have seen a dog look up. Is it possible? If so can you provide some proof for me?

Answers:
of course they can look up! they catch balls and frisbees dont they?
yeah they can
but can they move their eyes up without moving their head?
yes they can look up,but not completely up
I tried to test this by dropping a blacksmiths anvil onto the top of my german shephard, can I please have youre mail address to send the vets bill
well i am not exactly sure but to me they dont because they lift their head up to catch balls and stuff i dont know about their eyes.
Love that film. Was watching 'Spaced' last night - look it up if you like Shaun of the Dead.

I think it's more of a psychological phenomenon rather than a physiological one - if you shout a dog from an elevated position, the dog never seems to think to look up.
yes it is possible!
O' course they can - try waving a juicy piece of chicken on top of 'em..
To a degree, yes they can. My dog Hector looks up at me from the ground when I'm standing over him without moving his head, so in that respect he can. He also sees things in the sky and that's up. Having said that, my darling Hector has a brain tumour and his left eye has recessed, and he is starting to lose his sight, and I'm absolutely devastated, as my mum died of cancer, her cat died of exactly the same cancer as my mum, and now Hector has cancer too. It's very scary.
Yes dogs can look up that's why they have a head like humans do.
When dogs sit and howl how much more up can they be looking?
yes they can, also they can move there eyes up with out moving there heads just like humans. my Chihuahua she is always laying on the ground and looking up to me when i talk to her.
I would have thought that from where they stand (literally) ..looking up IS the only way!...well apart from looking down a further 12 inches from where their nose is!
Yes they can. My dogs have looked up at planes, helicopters, kites, birds etc..

However when dogs are hunting, including sight hounds, they never look up because they have their noses down to follow the scent or, in the case of the sight hounds they are focused on the animal they are chasing.

It is possible to 'hide' from a dog quite easily by climbing a tree or building as long as you don't leave a scent trail.

If you were able to climb one tree and then transfer from that one to another tree or another high point dogs on your trail would not look up to search for you visually although they would attempt to jump up at the tree you had climbed because of the scent trail.

They would not stand back and scan the surrounding trees in order to find you.
I'm pretty sure they can, it's pigs that can't see the sky apparently.
My dog does look up and she looks very funny. Her expression seems to say 'oh don't you love me any more?' Iris just visible with lots of blood shot white.
My dog spends hours looking up at the pigeons sitting on our roof and i mean straight up licking his lips and hoping that maybe one day all his staring will pay off.
I don't know, but the English bull terrier can't see past it's nose, that's why it snatches food, because he can't see it, only smell it!
Dogs can't look up! Big Al says so!
