Hi, my cat has had 6 kittens but she keeps hiding them around the house. does n e 1 no y?

Answers:
Shes just trying to protect them. Make a nesting box, ie a cardboard box , line it with towels for them to sleep on and move them into it along with mum. Make sure she can get in and out, and cover it with another towel. it will hide them and mum will feel safe. It also keeps them warm, and you will be able to check them to ensure they are growing properly.
how old are the kittens ?

as after a certain age mum will abandon them, mine did same thing but it was at the age when they could 'take care of themselves'
so you cant find them and kill them
they do this so they dont get disturbed by you or anyone else in the house. when the kittens are older she will stop doing this
Nature programmed Mom to keep the kittens away from predators, so she hides them, and changes the hiding place if she suspects they have been found, until they are old enough to start learning to defend themselves and avoid predators.
Any more text stuff? I'm xompiling a book.
she is doing it cause she dont feel safe where they are they do this sometimes leave them where she takes them and they will fine a mothers instint
It is instinct for her to hide them.If you are checking on them alot,it may be freaking new mom out.Find her a dark private place for them and she may quit moving them. She'll stop when she's comfortable.
let her do it, that's what they do in the wilds to keep the kittens from danger
she is hiding them from you, leave her be and let her take care of them, she feels threatened by to much attention and her kittens.
she needs a quiet out of the way place
ah bless her i bet its because she feels insecure and that u will take them away - well u will eventually wont u and she knows this. has she had a previous litter where u have taken them away?

cats are very psychic u know.
Cats do not like their kittens handled by humans and they hide them to keep them safe.
She probably doesn't feel that they are safe. Its normal for a cat to move her kittens once or maybe twice, but no more than that. It gets them away from fleas in the old nest, it deals with the risk of predators having seen her go in and out.
If she's moving them frequently it could be becaue she's a nervous animal to start with, and/or its her first litter. But basically she feels like her kittens are unsafe and she cannot leave them.
Try to find her a good sized clean cardboard box, slide it inside another bigger box so theres only a small access hole (or cut one) and cover it up with a blanket so theres only a small entrance showing. Put it in the quietest room in the house and shut the door. Put her litter tray, food and water and put the kittens in the room, on a blanket in front of the box. Let her put them in the nest herself. Don't let anyone else in the room.
You don't say how old the kittens are, but at about 5 weeks put a kids playpen in the front room and let them spend some time in there every day so they get used to people and noises.
so u cnt find them coz she doesnt want u near them coz she thinks ur gonna hurt them, just keep an eye on where she hides them but dont try and move them coz the mum will get angry.
Where did your cat have her kittens it is the place where her bed is now?. If not it could be that she is taking them back to where they were born.

My old cat once had kittens in the bottom of our settee, naturally we had to find a new place for her to look after the kittens. We decided to make a warm bed for her and the kittens in the garden shed. She did not like that one little bit and for two days she would jump on the flat roof of the kitchen and with one of the kittens in her mouth she got back into the house through the bathroom window and down the stairs putting them safely back into the settee. After two days we did not have the heart to put them back outside after all her efforts to bring them back indoors.

The vet explained that a cat with kittens does not like to be disturbed especially from somewhere that they feel safe and from prying eyes. This maybe the case with your cat.
Some humans could take some serious lessons from a cat, on motherhood!

The momma cat is being protective of her babies! They dont like their babies touched/handled, they like to have their children right close to them at all times!
She feels very insecure, and thinks her kittens are not safe. Let her put her kittens where she wants to, and dont move them. I hope you are having her spayed when they are three to four weeks old, or she will get pregnant again straight away. She will not lose her milk through this- they will still be able to feed quite normally.
my cat did that when she had 5 kittens she kept moving them around. dunno why, although it may be bacause she didnt think they were safe there. have you got any other pets?if you do try to keep it away from the mother and her kittens and if she keeps moving them, then every time she moves them, put them back where they were. eventually she will stop moving them
She will do this if she feels that it isn't safe for them, if you keep going to look at them and are showing them to lots of people or you have kids that keep going near them, then this will be the reason, if this is happening, leave her alone and only 1 person go to check on them each day to make sure all OK!
In the wild predators would be after her and her kittens so she hides them all over the place - scattered. So the predator A.K.A anyone doesn't go for the kittens it finds 1 kitten and the rest are safe. However if they are in your airing cupboard then they're just there for the warmth! ;-)
If you have a ginger one, and live near south yorks. I will be interested in one. Thanks. In answer to your question, If you have children and they are bothering the kitts, she will hide them away from them.
