Pet owners- do u think fleas are more prevalent this year or is it just me?!?
as an owner of a dog and 3 cats i already spend a fortune on frontline and insecticide, last year i only had to treat them once every 3 months and that was just to prevent rather than cure, but this year its been every month (which is all u can do) and i'm still seeing the little swines and being bitten! my poor 4 yr old son is covered on his back!

Get ridd your son is worth more than any animal, then fumigate your house
Fleas tend to be worse in the summer. I suggest you boil up all your bedding etc. and have a good fumigate.
They have been particularly bad this year because of the climate - hot weather followed by rain downpours (assuming you are in the UK, that is!). Same reason that we got invaded by all those daddy long legs a few weeks back apparently!
why? are you a flea?
just kidding . .
I agree with ernie. . get rid of the flea-bitten animals (or at least keep them outside or in the garage til they are done with their fleas).
You can't have them around your kid.
i agree so much my poor dog is allergic to them and she keeps getting them
Fleas can get into your carpeting, linens, and clothing around the house as well as on the animals. It sounds like you need to give your pets flea baths, treat them with preventative medication (Frontline once per month all year long) and then fumigate your house.
take ur pets to the vet and shampoo them with tea tree shampoo fleas hate the smell of it
sell them to a flea circus, then with the money send your son to disney land.or you could give them for xmas presents ,bit more original than socks and hankys
I am an owner/breeder, I currently am in possession of 20 pitbulls. I have 7 adults and 13 pups, and the problem starts in the grass, not the dogs okay so cut your grass super short and try not to keep it wet. the humidity draws them in. fronline is cool but in all honesty its not the best. Use QuickDrop flea and fly spray its used for horses and house pets very strong, you might want to think about trimming your cats too, short hair is hard for fleas to burrow in. I would also ask your vet. for some ground repellant, im not sure what your environment conditions are so you will have to treat accordingly.
I have 3 dogs and they have not had any for last 3 years, I give my dogs Garlic odourless pearls every day and put a drop of tea tree on their necks under the collars, once a month or if I see them itching more than usual, I also have no cats and no cats come near my dogs, so I think this is why my dogs don't get them, a vet friend of mine told me that all flees now are cat flees even rabbit's have cat flees as they have taken over because some people don't bother to do there cats.
im having the same problem, it is soooo much worse this year!
Heck no, its not just you, they are horrible this year! Yes it's sometimes a maddening thing when you can't get control over fleas. But kudos to you for being a pet owner we need more of them. 14,000 animals are put to death every DAY because of people who think only themselves matter. And of course your son is important but all you can do is do the best you can. I had to take both my cat and dog to the vet and have them dipped while the house was bombing and sprayed the yard later that day. That was a very trying day, but worth it. I don't have children but if i did i would talk to their doctor about how much Benadryl to use or use calamine lotion.
We have two tabby cats ( girls ) and last year
we only put frontline on them once no sign of
any flea's but this year weve bought two lots
of frontline and the poor cats are still
scratching and it looks like we'll have to buy
more, Ive got to agree with you its bad this year.
Yes they have been. At the vet hosp. I work for we have had a bunch of animals come in with fleas this year more so than other years. You could try giving your animals capstar as well as doing frontline. This can be picked up at your vet and it is for dogs and cats. Also vacuum like mad, throw out the bag, put on a new one and vacuum again. Wash everything you can and throw it in the dryer, the heat will kill those little buggers. A good flea fogger can also be purchased at your vet. Good luck..
last year was bad too and since I am involved with several people who run kennels I asked them. Apparently they and I were all using frontline and fleas have developed a tolerance to it. We all changed to stronghold and that solved the problem.
its been hotter this year and i think thats why it has been bad.dont forget to treat the house ,all of the house.the other thing is to ring your local council it will cost a bit but they can get someone out to treat the house for you with a stronger stuff than we can buy.good luck

I have 3 cats and they have never had fleas ever, i use frontline every month all year.
I believe this past summer was about the worst I can remember as far as fleas go. we have 1 dog and 3 cats and have had to fight fleas all summer long. even the frontline is having a difficult time with all the fleas!
yes they are outrageous this year, constant treatment for animals
anti-fox protesters have won their one upmanship on the country folk(uk) therefore resulting in a influx of foxes in citys ,the fox carries hookworm, various fleas with a vicious bite compared to "normal fleas"and mange, all transferable to domesticated animals"pets"it has been the worst year yet for my dogs in london regarding fleas and such like, not to mention the condition of the foxes i have seen.where are the fox lovers now why are they not tending to the animal they battled to save from hounds ,only to now battle with diseases and car injurys instead
