Y du cats purr?

Answers:
I think there are different reasons that cats purr, but the main is - to calm themselves. I have read that cats who are with big wounds, and obviously in pain, will purr to calm themselves while the pain attacks them.

Also, when my cat is very excited (playing, etc.), and I take him up and pet him, he will purr himself calmer, because he knows I like them to stay with me, right then.

Also, when I was away for a week, when I came home, my cat would purr every time I touched him - he got reassured that I still care for him, and calmed his fears. I mean, he would purr at every touch for days. not just explicit petting.
Strangley, cats purr to tell you not to be afraid of them, and to tell you that they are happy and relaxed. This of course seems somewhat laughable with domestic cats, but it stems from the big cats who purr to let other cats in the pride or group know that they are not being agressive.
When my cat purrs, he is usually sitting or laying on me. I think for them it means that they are content, relaxed, and not afraid. Lind of like their own time out to relax. Personally if my cat is on me purring, I take that as a sign that he is happy with me.
because they are happy
to show when they are happy.
